No one is chest-thumping.
That was kinda the point.
I feel like Bob Newhart.
I’ll phone him up for you.
The Roethlisberger maybe-trade-demand is mystifying.
He’s always been a bit of a drama queen. Maybe from his agent trying to prepare for new contract? It doesn’t seem like it will be a distraction which is all I care about.
The Ben drama sorta kinda went on all week, even after the denials the reports didn’t stop. But none of that matters today, because today the Lions and their two cheap-shot artists, Suh and Fairley, come to town.
If those two goons don’t dirty-hit Ben out of the game I think Pittsburgh wins. Of course, I always think Pittsburgh is going to win. If the Steelers want to have an outside shot at the playoffs they can only lose one more game, maybe, and none of them can be to division rivals. We’ll see how it goes.
Suh is a monster. yuck
Stafford will give the Steelers D some fits today, I think. Esp if Megatron is 90/100%.
Hey! How about that FSU stuff? Pretty wild, huh?
What FSU stuff?
/end hijack
The arrogance with both the Steelers and Pens right now has me completely disinterested in sports. With Pens, it’s Bylsma refusing to line match, keeping KCD together, and refusing to strategize to opponents with the assumption that they’re so much better than other teams that the only way they lose is if they don’t “get to the game” or they don’t “get the bounces.” The Steelers are eerily similar – what kind of brass balls does it take to single cover Calvin f’n Johnson with Ike f’nTaylor, series after series after series? And who thinks it’s a good idea for this offense to bubble screen on 3rd and 17? Uggggggh…

As unsavory as it is to see the Stealers win, on behalf of Da Bears, I thank you. Good job containing Megatron.
I couldn’t watch the game but Suh’s stat line tells me all I need to know about that part of the game.
Wow. I did not see that coming.
If 6 catches for 179 and 2 TD’s is containing him, well… The Steelers say “you are welcome.” ![]()
I don’t know… I’m not as happy with this win as I should be. First, I think it gives fans false hope, and it also buys Tomlin and Haley more time. “See? We don’t suck as badly as you all think!” Well, yes they do.
Second, every win pulls them further and further away from a prime draft pick.
Third, their rushing attack continues to be pathetic. They rushed over twenty times today, and their average was below 2 yds/carry. That is NOT good.
This win DOES go to show everyone what can happen if the Steelers protect the ball, generate a few turnovers, and let Ben throw. 400+ yards 4 TDs and 0 ints will make for a productive afternoon.
This should also show those fans who want to trade Ben what they will be giving up. You have a legitimate franchise QB, with three trips to the SB, 2 wins, and a shitty O-Line. If the Steelers would have won that 3rd SB, Ben would have as many rings as Tom Brady, and those two guys are rarely mentioned in the same sentence. I think Ben is one of the 5 best QB’s in the game, and he’s in his prime. I wouldn’t want to trade him if I didn’t have to. The Steelers waited a LONG time between franchise QB’s. You think Landry Jones is the next franchise QB? I don’t. I guess he could be, but the odds against it are long.
Well, this was a win I didn’t see on the schedule. They are still two games below .500, and 2.5 games behind the Bengals. They still have a massive mountain to climb. BUT, they did win today, even IF it was a small miracle. I think that Lion fumble late in the 4th quarter that caused the Lions to miss a chance to increase the lead was pure luck, but the Steelers did capitalize on it and they scored the go ahead TD off the turnover. So i’ll take it.
I just hope Steeler fans don’t start believing this team is better than it is. Because it is not a good football team.
I’d rather see the Steelers finish the season at 4-12, so we can get a very high draft pick AND fire Haley and/or Tomlin. My guess is Tomlin will be HC next year no matter what, but Haley HAS to go. The Steelers chances of getting into the playoffs are small. If they finish at 8-8, they go home. 9-7, and they go home. Only 10-6 gives them an outside shot, and to get 10-6, they have to run the table. I just don’t see that happening. So, although a win makes me happy in the short term, a high draft pick is a much better result for a non-playoff year. They an only get into the playoffs either by winning the AFC North (very doubtful) or getting a WC. One WC is gone (either KC or Denver), so that leaves one for the rest of the AFC. The Steelers are currently well down on the list of potential teams.
I’ll finish with this thought. If the Steelers decide to move on from Ben, the ONLY QB I would like to see in Pittsburgh next year is Johnny Football. I think that kid is great and is going to have a great NFL career if he gets the right opportunity. But since i think he will be gone long before the Steelers pick, AND since I don’t envision the O Line being much better next year to protect a rookie QB like Johnny Football, i say keep Ben, get an OC that works to his strengths, and fix that crappy O-line. Cut players like Adams, and anyone else regardless of where they were drafted. Keep drafting o-linemen until you get it right.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have an announcement to make. Are you ready?
Really, really ready?
The Steelers are one game out of the 6th seed!
After starting 0-4, after being completely dismantled by the Patriots just two weekends ago, they are behind only the Jets and the Dolphins for the final playoff spot. They also beat the Jets earlier this year so they have the tiebreaker against them and they get the 'Phins on the 8th of December. Next week they get the once-again hapless Browns, followed on Thanksgiving by the Ratbirds for round 2 of their usual grudge match. Miami is falling apart now that half their O-line is gone and the locker room is in shambles, and the Jets looked terrible this week.
Can it be that the Steelers actually control their own destiny, even at 4-6? Can it be that the team left for dead might actually completely resurrect their season? I certainly hope so, but with that comes a big problem: they might actually keep Todd Haley instead of booting him as they should. What a dilemma…
With Beachum and Whimper holding down the left side and Heath Miller at much less than full strength there’s only so much an OC can do. Haley will be fine, what they need is someone who can keep the linemen on the field. Pouncey’s injury isn’t something you can train for but a lot of the other issues along the line can be corrected.
I think the Steelers need to consider those uniforms they wore today to be their lucky uniforms and should wear them every game for the rest of the season.
I might have to consider rooting for another team. I’d almost rather they lose a game than be forced to watch them play in those uniforms.
