While I can’t quite picture starting Interrobairn!?'s solid food adventures with jalapeno poppers, I’m glad to see that we might be able to skip the elaborate breast-milk-and-rice-cereal concoctions that her cousin was weaned on.

When my older son was about 18 months old, his father was picking up takeout for us at our local Mexican joint. My son (in his arms) reached out and carefully selected a hot pickled carrot from the jar on the counter, and popped it into his mouth. His father and the counterman just stared at him as he happily munched it up and went for another. And those things are pretty hot! He liked them for about a year before he went on to his picky phase (which still exists at 11.)
