The Klezmatics -- Great Concert

I saw this band in concert last night, and they were great! For those who haven’t heard of them, the Klezmatics play a modern version of klezmer, which is a Jewish, eastern European folk music. For anyone who likes non-mainstream music, I urge you to check out this band.

The members have worked with a wide-range of musicians, from Page and Plant to David Byrne to Itzhak Perlman. After hearing them play, I think some of Tom Waits music may have been influenced by klezmer.

Klezmatics ROCK!!! Where did you see them? Are they on tour?

So, you got any CDs at home? I used to have a CD of Kapelye - that was some good stuff! Unfortunately I lost it in a break-in. Phui!

They were playing at Skidmore College as part of the summer Judaic studies program. So I got to see them in a small theater (about 350 seats), sitting in the second row, all for free! This is one reason I like working for a college.

I have two of their CDs – The Well and Jews with Horns.

One of my moms favorites lately. I can’t believe my mom is so into Klezmer. It’s the only thing that prevented me from getting into it myself when I was younger because it just wasn’t cool. Silly boy, Klezmer is fun. ___/

I like them very much myself. I would’ve loved to see them.

Glad you enjoyed the show.
