The Last Ship, S1E1

Well, Last Ship lacks an annoying teenager with a gigantic fivehead, so I have to go with Under the Dome.

Now you are just being cruel. Can’t we just agree they are all bad?

The previews kept me from watching; sounds like I’m not missing much. The book is pretty good, though, set on a U.S. Navy nuclear-powered destroyer during and after WWIII in late 1988, as told in the first person by the captain.

I’m holding out for Ebay.

Must be a pain in the butt when the ship is in lockdown and you have to wear one of those biohazard suit then you have to go to the toilet.

Am I right in that in the Navy no one on a ship called the USS Nathan James would refer to it as the Nathan James? It’s gonna be the Nate or Ol’ NJ or Jimmy or some such nickname…

…can we toss in shark-jump-specials like “Criminal Minds”?

At long last we can finally answer that old question; what if Adolf Hitler and Typhoid Mary had a baby!

So Mrs Gunderson is committing mass murder to fuel the power plant (among other things)? :dubious: Can’t say I’ll tune in next year.

how the heck can they use dead bodies as fuel. Is it new technology? Maybe the 727 billion barrels of US govt reserves are not available. :smack: Office of Petroleum Reserves | Department of Energy

Tex got a stolen kiss from Dr Scot. And she didn’t even resists.

And so some cop was trying to steal the ship. With a handgun.

Still glad I’m not watching.

I rather like it.
Better than the other shows we are watching,* Defiance* and Falling Skies.
But why in the holy hell, on TV, do they stick a two inch needle all the way into someone, rather than find a vein as they do with me at the Doctor’s laboratory, or just under the skin as I believe they do with vaccines?

This actually turned out a bit better than expected -

a) palpable tension - they actually killed a few folks and kept up a pretty good pace.

b) they didn’t drag out cure/vaccine -

c) making it into a sailboat!

I actually like the show. It’s not great entertainment, but I like apocalyptic stories and military porn. It hits enough of the buttons to keep me watching week to week.

This last episode was a little confusing. Okay, so someone who’s function as the remnants of the local government goes power mad and wants to hand-pick a rebuilt society. Okay, I’m with you.

So they… knowingly… fake… lab results… to themselves… and lie to themselves that the cure they’ve been working on isn’t just some sort of poison. For what reason?

They’re actively corraling up people and giving them the fake cure, and again, why? People are dying like flies out in the wild. Why even involve yourself?

And one guy taking over the ship was silly. They could’ve had a dozen or two deputies on the ship being immunized or something and made the takeover plausible.

I don’t know if crewmen go about armed on board, I suspect not, but surely if you fired a weapon the bridge would be full of very large marines and sailors very quickly.

I must admit the first episode was quite intriguing. But after that, it all just seemed to devolve into one big mess. The plot just didn’t make sense to me and I really couldn’t follow what was going on. It all just seemed highly confusing to me.

I watched as much as I could but eventually, I just had to give up and do something else because I just couldn’t stick with it. Just too confusing.

The cop on the bridge mentioned that his cop buddies were scattered through out the ship, and were ready to start shooting crewman should the bridge crew not surrender.

Although I am surprised that the navy would allow armed outsiders (even though they were lawmen) to be on the ship without releaving them of their guns.
