For me in early 70s L.A. it was Fright Night with Larry “Seymour” Vincent on KHJ Channel 9. Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson replaced him 6 years after his death. She tickled my funny bone as well as my… erm… never mind.
I’m pretty sure that Seymour was syndicated on the Louisville KY ABC affiliate at the time (mid-70s)- Channel 32. Also, on Saturday evenings, WDRB-TV 41 in Louisville had “Fright Night” hosted by a deep-voiced green-underlit face that introduced the movies- local actor Charles Kissinger.
Btw, here is Sammy Terry, the original (the role is now being done in live appearances & TV specials by Bob Carter’s son Mark)-

and while he was not exclusively a horror host. how could I forget Cincinatti’s Bob Shreve & his “Past Prime Playhouse”?
I love the old movies on streaming netflix, I just did 3 days of Noir, I think in honor of the weekend I might do a horror weekend =) I preset up the schedule on my queue and watch on my tablet
Great memories of all of these! And the silent coach scene in Black Sunday is still one of my absolute favorite chilling make your spine crawl when seen in a silent dark room at midnight scenes!
There is a series of recordings of hootenanies on Smithsonian Folkways Records.
