The Legend of 1900

Has anyone seen this movie? I just loved it and I can’t figure out why it didn’t hit it big. My favorite scene is the piano playing contest (and the piano in the ballroom scene, too). I don’t understand why this isn’t on a greatest hits list somewhere.

I saw it too because I’m a Tim Roth fan. I agree it was a great movie. I think it had elements that did not appeal to the Hollywood movie-going public.
Spoilers (sort of)

1900 just sort of threw away pretty much all his opportunities for triumph: Broke his record, never went after the girl, never got off the boat to acheive his destiny, and in the end sacrificed his life due to his own neurosis. All those elements will make for a pretty unpopular movie.

Yes fantastic movie. My mother is a pianist, and I always wanted her to see it to get her take on it.

Yeah “The duel” is one of the highlights.

Yeah, the good guy doesn’t win in the end, but Hollywood has gone with that before, and very successfully. Boy, it is just painfully sad. World Eater, you should rent that one for Mumzy. I’m sure she’d enjoy it.

I am going to be the voice of dissent and say this was a bad film. I wanted to see it because Roger Waters had a song on it. Tim Roth’s character had no appeal to him. I did not like the script but it was a interesting premise. My biggest complaint was the other lead actor, Pruitt Vince I believe is his name. He is a good bit part actor but the role was to much for his acting abilities. Plus those eyes would not stop shifting. I don’t know what medical problem he has but I could get past those always moving eyes.

I was hoping for a good drama. It was dramatic, but not good.

Yeah, the shaky eyes disease is a bit disarming. I had a friend in high school who had it and it’s hard to make eye contact. But I think both performances were really good. I liked the girl, too. And the evil piano player.
