Today we all got a new train and crew! The usual suspects were standing at the head of our normal platform when the station dispatcher annouced a track change. We were sent to the train that usually leaves after our train.
It’s on of the newer models with roomier seats and large bathrooms. Cool. I do not know the reason for this. Our regular train was late coming in but on of the usual suspect suspects appeasement.
My co-worker took the advice of the police (even though he said he wouldn’t on principle) and took the earlier train to avoid the ticket-taker. He said he was not going to change his routine permanently, but he was just too angry to deal with him today.
This may be the most nonsensical thing I’ve read for some time. It did happen to her directly. Perhaps you should actually read the OP before accusing someone of lying.
“I didn’t complain when, having a hard time finding my ticket, I handed him a bill. When the ticket dropped out of the folds of the bill I said, “Oh here’s my ticket.” to which your ticket-taker replied, “Too late,” moved the bill out of my reach and proceeded to pull an on-board ticket out of his punch and punch it up.”
When a person constantly uses “I” and “me” in an explanation, I would guess that the situation did, indeed, happen to him or her directly. It doesn’t take a degree in English to figure this out.

I have to say you are 100% correct in your post (even the spellcheck, though I like to thing I misspell intentionally as a protest against IE not having a spell checker built in):
If Biggirl truly had a problem w/ a certain conductor she could easily change cars.
Anyway I could easily prove that Biggirl has lied* from her words in the OP, given the chance to correct it, which she has she still lied*.
there is no ticket combination that will add to $5 that includes a $3.50 service charge, the min ticket price is $2.25, there is no $1.50 ticket that a service charge would be added. - possible exception that might hit this combonation is a ten trip off peak which Biggirl has not acknowleaged, and I don’t even know if that’s possible*
while the word lied means intent, I would personally use the objective " told an untrue statement" - which is a statement of fact, and she might truly believe her statement to be true, it is in fact false.
anyhoo
lissener I use that because I know it bugs you!, and I sort of like it
Also Biggirl has stated that she does indead have a beef w/ the LIRR, which could be motivation for making $hit up (again I think it more likely that she observed something she beleived to be the stated incident)
Tanaqui Yes that did and that is not the main point of the OP and goes to show her having a beef w/ the LIRR and possible making something up.
OK I will get off the main point of the OP, but am I still entitled to my opinion? or do I have to turn over control of my mind to the group? Anyway I’m done with anything posted above, you have the last word.
note to Biggirl:
From your postings I have idea of what line you take, or at least some idea. I do think you saw what you reported, and I don’t believe you lied (meaning intentionally told an untruth). I just think you must have missed something, and I think you have taken my post that way, which I thank you for. I am personally horrified by your report of the conductor stealing her shoes. If that event happened as you reported it, I would like to see that conductor thrown in jail, not for racism but for abuse of power as it would be equally wrong to do that to a ‘blue’ person.
The discrepancy in the fairs stuck for some reason in my mind, and I had some fun w/ that. I suggest you find out the true amount of the charge before you send it into the papers. Also once the conductor rips the ticket apart (to give you your receipt part) he HAS to charge you or else it comes out of his pocket but it does seem like he continued to make that ticket out after you presented you weekly, which he should have canceled.
Tell us more about your problem, like, why?
kanicbird, do everyone a favor and shut the fuck up already. You’re in a hole. Don’t dig.
Biggirl- I am dying to know what response you get- keep us posted!
Gossip on the train this morning: The incident was reported on a Caribbean radio station Sunday. One of the passengers was all excited today. She said it sounded as if they were reading from my letter! (No, they did not ask me first).
Our new ticket-taker told us he has been removed from all routes. Apparently the extra ticket punching is a very serious offense-- and this was not the first time he was accused of this.
kanicbird, I don’t know what you’re on, but kindly refrain from posting while you’re under the influence. If it’s just general stupidity and/or jerkishness, please refrain from posting, period.

For the Straight Dope
That’s excellent, Biggirl; good job.
With regard to reading your letter on air, i believe that once you send a letter, it becomes the property of the person you send it to. Anyway, even if regular copyright issues applied (i’m not sure if they do or not), reading part of it out in connection with a news story would fall well within fair use rules, i think.
See that, there is hope.
Upon reaching the last post on page one, I was all set to offer a pessimistic opinion about Union rules and cretins who (when given a badge and uniform) get this, ‘I’m superior to the civilian population’ type attitude.
I was going to recommend ratcheting the issue up to the Commuter/Strap-hanger association, but I guess the media pulled through.
Good Job
Nice work, Biggirl!
Please keep us updated, Biggirl! I am anxious to know what happens!
Way to go, BigGirl…
what is sad, is “double punching a ticket is a serious offence”
chuckle
so if the guy had only bullied people, and blockaded them from taking a seat and messed with their property and laid hands on them and pushed them and made false testamony in an arrest
those would have been pretty much ok?
chuckle
Gotta love organizations! (“Hummm… don’t see a rule against any of that other stuff, specifically, but we can get him on the ticket punching thing!”)
and, again, atta way to go, Big Girl
Sorry for the bump, but I’m wondering if there is any new info on this?
Nope. I haven’t even got a form letter back from the LIRR.
Our new ticket-taker (who has been promoted to conductor since “the incident”) has this to say-- “He’s not all right. He’s. . . ill.”
The Long Island Railroad has answered my letter. For those who remember and still care, here’s what the VP of Market Development & Public Affairs had to say:
– Any typos are mine. My touch typing skillz is lacking.
So the LIRR has apologized. As for disciplinary action, I really don’t care (who am I kidding? I hope he got bitch-slapped) as long as I don’t have to ride with the fool ever again.
As for the police investigation, my co-worker says he has heard nothing from the police and has been asking me almost daily if I received a reply from the LIRR. I’ll show him the letter on Monday.
Excellent. Great job, Biggirl.
Too many people shrug this sort of thing off, and so it just keeps happening. If more people stood up to the bullies like this, the world would be a better place.
