The 'Lexus' Statistic and Pencil/Paper Question

Ok, now that I’ve got you to read this question, I can explain fully.

There is a Commercial going around for Lexus that mentions something to the effect of “The average driver only spends 1% of his time in reverse.”

-Assuming that this is true, I wonder the following, and what relation the two may have:

What percent does average Writer (Doodler, Drawer, Mathmatican) spend in “erase”? (That is, assuming he always uses pencil).

I assume that the number is nearly identical to the 1% stated for reverse… in the sense that both “undo” what has been done.

Some may argue that an eraser can erase something that it did not create (where as a car can not move around so freely). I counter with people -sometimes- scratch out pencil marks with more pencil marks- even when an eraser is given them.

What is the average time the average penciler spends in Erase?

I don’t think that Lexus even bothered to calculate the figure and I’m sure they actually stated something like “less than 1%.” A typical driver may drive a thousand miles a month, 1250 is considered “normal” for blue book purposes IIRC, but even if you back out of ten parking spaces a day, twenty five feet each, every day of the month, weekends included it’s about a mile and a half. If you want to know percentage of time in erase you’ve got some research ahead of you.
