I just watched the movie and am confused about the ending.
Can someone please explain to me? I have not yet learned how to create “spolier boxes” so I don’t want to ruin it for others.

How much of the ending are you confused about?
David was a martyr to his cause. He purposely allowed himself to be set up for the murder so he could prove once and for all to the state government (and everyone else) that an innocent man can erroneously be put to death. The woman knew she was terminal so she agreed to the filming of her own death for the cause. The guy in the cowboy hat (sorry, been a while and don’t remember their names) also was in on the whole thing, and is on the lam for the rest of his life for his part in it.

If the postcard you’re talking about
is from the coed who accused him of rape in the beginning of the movie (again, it’s been a while since I saw it), well, I don’t rightly know what it’s purpose was other than to make an already sympathetic character (Spacey) more sympathetic. I believe the postcard more or less indicated that the rape charge was false. Maybe it gave his ex-wife some closure and the understanding that David wasn’t the kind of man she was led to believe (a rapist)?
