My house, inexplicably, has had the power go off three times in a row now–once yesterday early in the morning, for about a minute; once today, very early, while I was still sleeping, and once in the afternoon.
Wasn’t a fuse breaking, I can tell you that. The weather’s been pretty funky up here lately (miserably cold, lots of rain and some hail), but as far as I can tell, there wasn’t even a powerout on our block–just our one house.
Possibly loose or corroded connections at the pole transformer, or inside the meter box on the outside wall, or in the breaker box. You should call your power utility and have them check the lines into your house. Presumably, you are responsible for the wiring IN the house, unless you have an inside wiring service agreement with your utility, for which you will be charged some extra each month on your bill. If the power company inspection turns up nothing amiss on their side and you don’t have such an agreement in place, you’ll need to hire an electrician to fix it. Good luck.
Are the power cables buried or aboveground? If buried, the recent heavy rain you described can cause shifting that’s imperceptible to you, but more than enough to damage the underground power line. This happens frequently in my neighborhood, always after dramatic weather changes (drought to downpour, etc.) It’s so prevalent I have invested in a generator to keep power to the important stuff (Fridge, computer, and TV ).
