The Little Old Man on the Bus

There is a classic video of a teenage lass wearing a Nirvana shirt, having Lithium played for her and obviously having no idea what she is hearing. I mean, I was already old(-ish) when Nevermind came out, so that makes me feel Triassic.

I was rear-ended a while back. As the other driver and I exchanged information, I noted that she was 2 years younger than me.

In telling and re-telling the story later, at one point I realized that I had been describing her as an “older woman”.

That was an unsettling moment.
mmm

That’s much more accepted nowadays than it used to be. Encouraged, even.

I’ve been at the same job for 25 years. It’s’ a good job. GIS. I’m a programmer. My boss and I are in our late 50’s. My two co-workers are a bit frightened that my boss and I are going to probably be retiring at about the same time. One co-worker is sort of being groomed to take over the department. I would be next in line but don’t want anything to do with it, and as I will be retiring anyway, doesn’t make sense and I don’t want it (I despise meetings, and that’s pretty much 50% of the job).

I’ll gladly consult, probably for free as my co-workers are my friends. But they are a bit jittery about taking this on. Don’t blame them. The GIS department of 4 people is going to be losing 50 years of experience in one swoop when my boss and I retire.

(I must admit that part of me is going BWAHAAHHAH)

Oh, HELL, yeah!

They’ll probably play the Doors too, but only “Love Her Madly”, “Hello I Love You”, and the single cut of “Light My Fire”.

I have nightmares of Barry Manilow and the BeeGees playing in my old folks home muzak system.

There was a Partridge Family marathon on Mother’s Day. I watched two episodes. All the ads were for reverse mortgages, those “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” buttons, hearing aids, and the like.

I never watched the show in prime time, only in reruns, but the ads at least, were for Tiger Beat subscriptions, K-Tel records, and Ronco products.
