The long road of never-ending laptop issues.

In an attempt to optimize my laptop capabilities, I went on a mission to find an all in one instant messenger through Trillion. I was using Window 95 at the time, and once it was done downloading it complained about needing an updated Winsock. So, I went to Microsoft to get the update only to, after installing it, have it restart and nothing would connect anymore. Nothing being IE and YIM. It was like it didn’t even want to try to connect.

I uninstalled the update and tried fixing the mess best I could, but nothing wanted to work. So I decided that upgrading to Windows 98 might fix my problem. After upgrading, everything was working fine again. Fun a plenty! But having installed this new system, that should mean that my Winsock should beupdated and ready for Trillion.

So, I went and continued to setup the program, of which I got a pretty far in. Around the part where I tried setting up my MSN account, there was an error, everything on screen shut down with some message I didn’t bother remembering past “Damn, there was a screw up. I need to restart” So I did, and after which, YIM was working fine. Great, nothing screwed up.

So then I went to check my email, and damn, why isn’t it loading? After a lengthy search of the problem, reinstalling the system again, and trying to understand why YIM and ICQ are working but not IE, I decided to (not so much decided as was told) install a new version of IE to hopefully fix my issues. Well that didn’t work. Better IE, same old problem. Any help out there that doesn’t involve the old standby of formatting and reinstalling my system fresh and clear? Please?
