The lost art of Letter Writing - for your MMP consideration

I didn’t do any shopping Monday, but I did a bunch today - all online. In fact, except for one or two more things, I’m pretty much done now.

He said smugly.

OK, I really enjoyed Mon and Tues being kinda quiet around here so I could spend lots of time surfing teh interwebs. But now I’m getting bored and would really like more work to do. But not these dumb long-term sorta half-assed projects that don’t really need to be done and feel an awful lot like busy work. Bleh.

Two words: Persis. Khambatta.

<looks around> Yep, things seem to be back to normal… Had a hell of a scare on Sunday. DH went into a full-on bout of respiratory distress in the afternoon. The house medic didn’t like what he was seeing, so 911 was called and DH had a less than enjoyable ride to the ER in an ambulance. While in transit, the city paramedic had no luck establishing an IV, so he’s got two holes in his arm with nothing to show for them.

Once I made my way to the hospital, he was evidently not in any grave danger as the ambulance had left and he was waiting in “chairs” to be called by the triage nurse, rather than being on a gurney. Whatever happened to being brought in by ambulance granting an automatic fast-track to a treatment or trauma room and attention from half of the entire hospital staff? It always seems to work that way on TV.

About three hours later, he’d been x-rayed to rule out pneumonia (always popular this time of year) then given an albuterol inhaler and a pat on the head and sent home. He was an absolute wreck on Monday, and still pretty tired on Tuesday.

Apparently, he forgot to read the sign on the backstage wall about “THEATER, not DRAMA!”

I was patiently waiting for my salon to open at 10, but forgot I had a meeting. So I made the appointment when I got back. I couldn’t get in to see my stylist until the 12th, so I asked if they had anything sooner, since I was ready to shave it all off*. The receptionist found me an appointment on Saturday. Next time, I’ll make the return appointment before I leave the salon. (I’ve never shaved my head, but my brother did, and it turned out he’s got an oddly shaped skull, plus scars from when he fell on his head, and a big black patch (?) that isn’t noticeable when he has hair.)

*It probably wouldn’t be a good idea to shave my head right now, since enough people at work know I have some medical issues at the moment that I’m sure they’d leap to the conclusion that I have cancer.

I went shopping for the kitties at lunch and $84 later, they now have plenty of food, their favorite litter, a new blankie, and a cardboard scratch board for Skunk. Keisha has a large wooden scratching post. I used to use 4 foot sisal covered-posts, but she went through them like crazy. It alarmed the neighbors to see a destroyed scratching post that size.

Wow, gotti, that sounds really scary! I’m glad everything turned out all right.

Yuck, respiratory distress. I’m glad he’s okay now, gotti.

Pugs, I’ve sort of grown out of a couple of my new pregnancy bras anyway, so I needed a couple of new ones. I found two quite-nice nursing bras for $25 and $31, which is about what I generally spend anyway, so I don’t feel bad.

And I got fabric for bibs and burp cloths, and for a couple of new maternity/nursing tops for me (Right now I have three tops that are long enough, and one of them I made last night). So tonight will mostly be spent in laundry and pre-shrinking fabric.

I’m thinking about replacing the maternity waistband on my jeans. They’re my one pair of pants that I bought made up, and didn’t alter, and they fall down all the time. I hate the waistband. What genius decided that the very best place to hold up pants by elastic is the widest part of my body?

Ummm, doggio, if it was a secret, do you think we’d tell you??? :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad DH is better now, gotti. That sounds scary.

I’m off to a friends, so this is really a drive-by. Back after a bit…

Skimmed because I have a sinus headache. Why am I getting hugged? Because of my vertigo or whatever? Hey, it makes life interesting! It’s back (the decongestant wore off).

Off to lounge in a bath, darlinks. Such is my life of leisure and fun.

You should all be proud of me. I washed all the dishes, did three loads of laundry, and scrubbed both teapots. I have a sudden upswelling of housewifelyness which I think comes from reading Home Comforts.

I hope it lasts through tomorrow, because I should really move the couches and vacuum and mop the kitchen and livingroom. I’ve been meaning to for weeks.

doggio, a week or so ago, I had a dream we were married. I think possibly you were an addition to the Husbands, except it was slightly more official. So my subconcious doesn’t want you dead, anyway.

bleh

that is all
oh and appropriate stuff to all.

just got off the phone with Cousin and among other things, we discussed pistachios - and I just have to know - who ever thought it was a good idea to douse unshelled pistachios with red dye?

That is an excellent question. Very unnecessary.

When’s the baby due, LiLi? Sounds like you’re nesting already…

I’m home and sleepy. Off to read and then, I hope, fall asleep.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Where’s the crazy smiley? I was at work for 14 hours today and I’m still not done. Had a great idea for a quick Christmas Open House/Free Picture with Santa and I need to put it all together by Friday so that I can have the thing on the 8th.

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! (Yes, I’m wound)

So, basically this is a drive-by for me too. Hugs and kisses to all.

These ads are really, really annoying me.

I bought a new dress today! It was fantastically cheap and I can wear it to work as well, so it’s practical. Yay me.

obligatory photo, please.

eta: according to the pit threads, the banner ads are temporary while they track down a software glitch

You were required to write letters in Boot Camp? :dubious:

Man, you Navy people get it so easy compared to us Airmen (WARRIOR AIRMEN! FLY! FIGHT! WIN! . Erm… sorry about that. Conditioned reflex). We were allowed to write home only when our instructor decided that we had earned 10 or 15 minutes to do so, and of course, if we had anything left to do (folding shirts, rolling socks, etc.), that took priority over our free time. And of course, under NO circumstances were we to ever stay up late to write letters after lights out.

I lost count of how many letters I wrote while I was in Basic. Most of them late at night with the aid of a flashlight or in the latrine where I could have the lights on. I got letters from my mom and brother (my dad never took to writing, and simply waited the few weeks at a time for me to get a rare chance to call home, as he knew I’d call him first), letters from a girl I had at the time only known online (we still have pen pals, we call them “Myspace Buddies” or “Facebook Friends” or what have you), a few letters from my old boss at the library I used to work at (oddly enough, he typed his letters on a computer, and had remarkably bad spelling for a librarian), and one letter from my ex-girlfriend (which included an intricate hand-drawn dragon, all done in pen, the most permanent and non-correctable of ALL correspondence implements).

When I got put on medical hold, I had more time to write letters during the day, and during my brief stay in the Get Fit Flight, I smuggled a few letters out through a friend I had in Medical Hold (both Medical Hold and the Get Fit flight are in the same squadron). Now that I’m out of Basic, I have reverted mostly to sending emails, although one of my friends insists that I still owe her a hand-written letter.

Make no mistake, in Basic Training, letters from home are cooler than Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and the Incredible Hulk put together. They’re reminders that the outside world still exists, and more importantly, that those people who live in the real world actually give a shit about you and what you’re going through, which is nice. And yeah, I love old school hand written letters. When I was in college, I even had a sealing wax candle and a cheap little seal I’d bought for $10 at the mall which I’d use on letters I’d write home for fun.

I’ll post a photo tomorrow - I’m going to wear it to attend some international student career panel thingy thing. And then I’m going to go drinking, cause I’ll need it.

Jerry says the ads aren’t temporary as far as he knows. I think the mods were surprised as any of us.

when did he say this? TubaDiva had stated the ads had to be turned on for all so that Jerry could find the bug and implied that they’d be turned off for members once the bug was fixed but that guests would still (and always have) see them

He doesn’t say anything about it being temporary because of a bug. It seems like he’s implying that someone higher up has decided that banner ads will be shown to everybody now.

Who knows. None of the mods have clarified. Hopefully we’ll have more news tomorrow.

That ad is frelling annoying. the Canes lost tonight, I broke my Rod Brind’Amour figure, and I have to go to work tomorrow.

LiLi, I think I like your dream best. Just don’t tell Mr. Lisslar, I don’t want to wake up dead.

gotti, glad DH is OK.
