The Love Bug

This love letter computer virus is proof that:
-love conquers all.
-free love spreads viruses.
-tis better to have never been loved at all than to have loved.

heh heh!! Alright, which one of you evil computer geniuses here on the SDMB created the virus?

Alright, which one of you had a bad breakup with a hacker recently?

What really pisses me off is that Microsoft put the damn feature in Exchange, Outlook and Outlook Express to auto-f’ing-matically run scripts in e-mail messages.

If I were the FBI, I would haul Bill up on charges of conspiracy to distribute computer viruses or gross negligence.

Does this mean the virus acts on Outlook Express as well as Outlook? I have only seen articles referring to Outlook.

I haven’t gotten it yet. I feel so unloved. Love hurts.

Here is what I heard:
Call it a Microsoft worm. I had to keep pointing out to
people here that people who use other mail readers than Outlook could
execute the script if they have later versions of Windows. (I believe it
is
95 w/ IE5 or 98+.) It just can’t spread if you don’t have Outlook
address books.

The important point is that ANY Windows computer that runs the virus
program will most likely lose a large number of files. Also, there is a
part of the virus that attempts to set up a known password-stealing
program. So even if you don’t use Outlook, you aren’t “safe”. Unlike
Melissa, the payload on this worm isn’t pretty!

Curious George - I too, am unloved.

A young couple in the Phillipines has been arrested for this. I guess this virus could be called “The Thrilla’ from
Manila”!

I lost my Address Book in Outlook. It’s basically paralized my ability to send out press releases for the battle group.

Right now I’m trying to reconstruct the lost addresses, but getting folks to give me their address when I don’t have their address to send the request to is rough!

Chief, you are patrolling the Pacific, right? You could take your ship over to the Phillipines and help seize those virus creators. international terrorism. This time, it’s personal.

My department got hit hard by ILOVEYOU.
Four computers infected (and two eaten by a varient)in my office alone. Judging by the virus spawn roaming through our departmental e-mail, probably about 200-250 computers total were infected. I got lucky. I was “out sick” the day it hit.
