The Machinist

Saw the film last night, and like everyone else, I was shocked by how scrawny Christian Bale looked. As for the film, it’s not bad, a little slow paced in spots I thought, and the washed out colors (representing how Bales character is affected by not sleeping for a year) got kind of annoying.

The film’s a twister, though. Throughout the movie Bale’s character is pursued by a shadowy figure named Ivan, At the end of the film, you discover that Ivan is Bale’s subconscious who is tormenting Bales because of the hit and run accident he caused killing a little boy.

Bale freaked out producers actually with his weight loss (reprots vary between 130 and 121 lbs). They were going to try to use CGI to make him look emaciated. Them he showed up onset superscrawny. Did something like eat only an apple and one can of tuna a day until he shed the weight.

He’s 6’2"…a nd he was 121-130 lbs!!!

I liked it even though if you figure out the plot early on (which I did) it drags.

So… how was the machining?

There really wasn’t very much of it. However, Michael Ironside’s character provides excellent material for a safety training video.
