The Man is the Boat? Who is he?

That’s a golden idea.

Not necessarily, jjimm. This Pit thread about him morphed into a pretty nifty physics lesson (from scotth, with BZ asking good questions.

So while I’m not sure this thread here is a complete joke, there’s at least been some precedent that he has posted serious queries. I think this one’s borderline; it’s certainly possible for someone not to know what “man in the boat” refers to.

Man in the boat was in the Farmer and Henley Dictionary in 1890, so it goes back a ways.

Great job, everton. Say, I have a homework assignment that’s due, could you possibly…

Pertinent questions after disingenuous OPs notwithstanding, IMO, that such posts turn into interesting discussions is more a mark of the interestingness of the other posters. This (and his other OPs) is clearly written in a spirit of faux naïveté. Doesn’t bother me really, just thought I’d mention it in order that people don’t waste their time.

Yeah, but think of it this way. Let’s say he’s completely full of shit with his “questions,” but people (like me) answer truthfully, anyway. There might be people out there who were seriously wondering what he was wondering, and now they have their answer. Like I said, not knowing what “man in the boat” means is not a horrible thing; there are millions (probably) who don’t.

Now, if he begins asking questions on par with the idiot in leechbabe Moron thread …

Yeah, you do have a point, dan. However, the Superman threads were pretty damn stupid. But anyway, no biggie. I shall feck off now.

Yep, they were. And it irks me when people post questions just to get a reaction. Not always easy to tell when that happens, but when it is…

This one’s asked and answered.
