The Mandela Effect and Geena Davis in a Green Bikini

Heh, I remembered something like that too but it was American Family Publishers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEMYatr_j1o

In the dimension I come from it was Publisher’s Clearinghouse.

In your dimension, did Ed have a job? I mean, where he did more than say “Heeeere’s Johnny!” then go sit on a couch and chortle at Johnny’s jokes…

Apparently Andrew Zimmerman changed his name recently to Andrew Zimmern, because I REMEMBER HOW IT USED TO BE.

I don’t remember one, no. But interdemensional travel can mess with your head.

I watch subbed anime from time to time. When I remember it it’s always in English.

perhaps this was in the alternate ending to Big?

Trivia time!

Mandela’s was one of the draft obituaries CNN accidentally made public 17 years ago today.

Yes. Years after the point in time when almost nobody* thought he was already dead.

*Possibly nobody, because the idea of the Mandela Effect wasn’t dreamed up until 2009, another six years after the CNN incident.

When Mandela was released from prison in the '90s, it surprised a lot of people at the time, because they thought he’d died in prison in the '80s. The whole “Mandela Effect” stems from the big media coverage of him being released from prison. It’s not an ongoing thing. People weren’t shocked when he died in 2013 because they thought he’d been dead for thirty years already.

(And like TriPolar just pointed out, it wasn’t actually a “thing” at the time, it’s something that came out years later when people were reminiscing about their reaction to the news.)

I think this is a common experience. I know that I have pictured B&W photos or movies in my head as color, because memory is not a video recorder. It tries to correlate things to the world you know, and the world you know is in color.

I took it as a brown acid reference–seeing colors that aren’t there. Still works, even if I’m wrong.

A minor example but actor Anna Faris started as Ana Faris (House Bunny, Mom). I’m sure of it, SWMBO is sure of it yet I can’t find anything online with her name spelled that way.

When I search online for “Ana Faris” I find a lot of webpages with the name spelled that way, not as many as for “Anna Faris”, but still a lot. Wikipedia lists a lot of people who spell their name as Ana. Again, not as many as who spell it Anna, but still a lot. Apparently, it’s standard to spell the name Ana in Spanish-speaking countries and in the Balkans. Some Americans spell it that way. Apparently a lot of people who wrote articles, blogs, etc. about the actress spelled it Ana because they didn’t bother to check any good source before writing it. You probably first saw the name in one of those articles, blogs, or whatever and remembered it from that.
