Not from me. The second chances are built-in around here. Arfur needs to make the choice to take his and make good use of it.
Nobody has called for a banning (yet), although it wouldn’t surprise me terribly to come upon a Pitting of him in the near future. If I do, I don’t have any need or intention to pile on. I would expect that if Arfur is sincere about wanting to be an IFD[sup]TM[/sup]* and finds himself Pitted, he will apologize for having made a poor first impression and resist any temptation to escalate.
In accordance with that expectation, I will simply say, “Welcome to the SDMB, Arfur. Let’s go fight some ignorance.”

As I wrote my original response, I felt myself mellowing (if you re-read it, you can actually see me going from pissed-off sarcastic to somewhat empathetic).
It’s easy to sit around with your friends and spout out some outlandish off-the-wall solution to a problem. In the past four months, I’ve heard friends say-- in regard to the Middle Eastern situation-- things like “Let’s just nuke 'em and get it over with,” and “Let’s just annex the Middle East and make all the countries states.”
I didn’t lecture them, I didn’t yell at them and tell them what assholes they are being. I might roll my eyes, shake my head and chuckle. But I know that that isn’t the solution, and they (I think) know that that isn’t the solution. It’s just some stupid remark, often said as a result of frustration or whatever.
Granted, it’s hard to tell the tone of one’s voice when they’re posting on a MB, and it’s even more difficult to tell the intentions of a post from a new member. We all aren’t your buddies (yet) Arfur, so when you say something as offensive as you did in the OP, we tend to take you as a serious troll.
Just watch what you say, Arfur. People tend to take things at face value (as well they should) around here.
But benefit of the doubt and all that jazz.
