The Military In My School

Yes, mileage will vary, and no, no nasty memories, just a brilliant, hardworking, long suffering father who couldn’t figure out how to get discipline into his stubborn, smart, smart-ass, know-it-all son. He feels terrible about it, and sadly, he sees the success the Navy tought me as a reproach to his parenting.

Shagnasty, sorry about the hijack.

Sterra, no, they didn’t teach grammar, but it would’ve been a far longer hijack to stick precisely to the point while saying the same thing. I took a short-cut to the heart of the matter, sorry if I lost anyone.

Apologies to one and all for particpating in, and encouraging, the hijack. I now return you to the Palve attitude-adjustment.

How so Sterra? I am a Libertarian and love the US. Does this mean that I have to accept every idea that comes out of a whiney, misinformed, immature, high-schooler’s mouth as equal to the intelligent opinions that I am used to seeing on this message board. The OP had a right to say what was said but that does not mean that all ideas and viewpoints are equal. The consensus on this viewpoint seems to be that it is immature and petty. I expect you to say how “I am an enemy of everything America stands for.”

Hey, I went to a military school and we avoided recruiters like the plague. They’d always seem to pop up at annoying times. Of course, they probably had a little more room to breathe at an all male military academy.

Times being what they are though, I think we would have reacted differently to their presence. You see, we were up to our asses in military etiquette, uniforms and PT. The last thing we wanted was somebody trying to sell us into more etiquette, more uniforms and more fucking PT. Of course it’s a bit silly to wine about it, if you go to a public school and you can just walk around them and go about your merry way.

I know that doesn’t add anything to the conversation, but I thought I’ld chime in.

That is precisely why we need those weapons systems. Unlike the days of old, chivalry on the battlefield is dead. We want to go in and get the job done. Modern warfare is not about “Well, that ain’t fair”, it’s about kicking ass as quickly as possible with the fewest casualties.

Look up trench warfare in WWI if you want to see an example of relative battlefield parity. It was bullshit.

Any advantage we can gain through tech, I am all for it.

Pardon the slight hijack.

Palve, if you took some shop classes you could easily build a overhead walkway to avoid the crowds in the hallway . Next time your in school find the shop teacher he is the one missing a few fingers. He will also have a name with wood in it like, Mr.Smallwood , Mr. Woodson , explain to him your predicament .He will be glad to help you build your overhead walkway, cause those shop teachers are caring individuals . I don’t know if its the power tools or the paint thinner fumes that make them care so much , but care they do

Giving him too much credit, Crafter_Man. Kinda like calling a dog a dangerous animal 'cause he humped your leg.
