The Minus Man? Anyone Seen it?

I recently caught this movie on the Independent Film Channel. It stars Owen Wilson in an interesting character turn. Mercedes Ruehl (sp?) and some other faces you’ll recognize are in it also (love Dwight Yoakam in all movies he’s in!). I never heard much about it, Sheryl Crow has a small opening role.

There are some slow parts, but I watched the whole movie. Usually when I give a movie a “try” I’ll watch the whole thing or turn it when I can’t stand it anymore.

If anyone has seen it, I do have a question on what exactly the two police characters were supposed to symbolize (Dwight and a guy I’ve seen in other movies, but I can’t place a name to the face).

Does anyone have any opinions on this movie?

I am not sure what the cops are supposed to symbolize, except maybe the insanity of the Owen Wilson character. At least that’y my theory. I didn’t like the movie that much except for those 2, actually…it gave the movie a strange sort of David Lynch quality.

I was trying to determine whether they were a slight symbolization of good and evil? But your take sounds right, too.

I’m not sure how I felt about the movie. Not necessarily one of my favorites, it made me a little uncomfortable for some unexplained reason.

The trailers for this movie were great, but the movie was only average.

The trailers had this girl and guy walking along, talking about plot points of the movie. They kept walking and talking, trying to figure out a lot of different things. At the end, the girl realizes she about to be late for her lifeguard job at the YMCA. She rushes there, puts on her suit, goes out to the pool, and there are about three dead bodies floating there.

Minus Man

It will have you talking.

I saw it. Very enjoyable. Janeane Garafolo was excellent, and I thought Wilson was perfect as the charmer.

Owen Wilson was great. He played the part perfectly.

I think the two cops were his conscience. He didn’t seem to think what he did was wrong, but they sorta were there to remind him that what he was doing was wrong. But still, even his twisted mind had them play roles where they were still encouraging him to kill.

Question about Jane. I have to ask…who do you think killed Jane? I don’t think Vann did this one. Did Doug do it? Or, was it some other random killer and poor Doug took the fall?

Funny, the jillelope and I were just talking about this tonight. Grace, I think that

Doug killed her. They’d been having such awful fights, and I thought Vann’s presence, seeming like a “positive” presence around the house, ironically (or maybe not so?) drove Doug to do it.

Just my guess, of course.

I loved this movie, rented it like three times. I always get the feeling there’s something going on that I’m not quite catching. And I love the soundtrack; the “Lean in closer” song from the beach scene has stuck with me for the two years or so since I last saw it.

Does anyone know how the DVD is? Any cool extras/explainers?

I just watched it after getting it from Netflix and I don’t think it had any extras. I almost always check them out, but I don’t remember this having anything extra.
