I don’t see why not. Clearly, it doesn’t behave like a black hole, in that matter and energy can freely escape from it. And as big as it might be, I’m pretty sure we could build bigger. Unless the rift is so big it breaches the upper atmosphere, or something.
Global warming is already a catastrophe. If the mist actually socks in the entire planet, it’ll accelerate the process, but I don’t know that it’ll make it worse, and global warming isn’t going to end human civilization, it’s just going to fuck it up real bad.
Our ecosystem’s only tame if you don’t count us as part of it. I didn’t see anything that came out of that hole that has a patch on human aggressiveness.
