The Onion has also done their own take on poorly written suicide notes.
Not really, since I didn’t know what the MLA is. For all I knew, it was something to do with a psychological analysis of them. I’ll probably find it very darkly amusing later, but not right now.
Muad’Dib, I don’t yet know how she did it. I’ve sent my condolences to my friend and plan to travel this weekend to see him, but he didn’t mention the means of her death. As for why, she had been fighting depression much of her life, and last I knew she had been getting help for it. Her depression got much worse earlier in the month, and according to him, nothing that doctors or that he could do was enough to prevent her from finally ending her own life.
Ah, good point, Ferret Herder. Since 90% of the people I know IRL are all too familiar with the MLA, I tend to forget that it’s not a household word outside of English department circles.
That’s excellent. Thanks for sharing!
My daughter has known 3 kids to kill themselves.
I didn’t find this site amusing at all.
I think its warped.
Or anyone that’s ever gone through high school in the past decade and a half or so.
FWIW, more than one kid would die at my high school every year, every so often because of suicide, and I thought it was absolutely horrible. Funny, but horrible. If you don’t like it, I can definitely see why not, but to me the MLA guide was darkly humorous.
Yeah, pretty tacky if you ask me Muad’Dib. I’ve been the recipient of a couple of suicide notes (actual deaths, not attempts) and while I am normally a great reveller in black humour, this one just struck me as…well…tacky.
Sorry to rain on your parade and all.
If UNC-CH doesn’t like it, I can talk in your behalf to them over at Lizard Lick University!
That’s hilarious.
And FWIW, one of my friends has twice attempted suicide.
Although I can see how some people wouldn’t enjoy the link, I’m definitely one of those who did. Funny stuff.
OK, I’m one of those who’s known for eons what the MLA is - basically the professional association of English and linguistics profs.
Which was why I stopped reading after three typos and grammatical mistakes in the first two paragraphs. Jeez, guys, if you’re gonna do it, do it right.
