The most horrible man you've probably never heard of

How is all of this mundane and pointless?

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board, Everyman.

You’re absolutely right, of course. This is not mundane and pointless. The name of the forum is a bit misleading. If you read the subtitle, it’s a little more clear: “For general discussion: from frivolous chatter to deep thoughts; from harmless diversions to life-changing announcements.”

Not everything in this forum is actually mundane or pointless, but this is the “catch-all” forum for things that don’t fit elsewhere. There’s no Great Debate here (we all agree this is a Bad Guy), it isn’t about Arts or Entertainment, it’s not a hatefilled rant the way the OP wrote it, it’s not asking our opinions or gathering a poll, it’s not about a Straight Dope column, it’s not a game and it’s not selling anything.

We’ve had some discussions about changing the name of the forum. Some people feel weird posting about their divorce or their miscarriage or the death of loved ones in a forum called Mundane and Pointless. But the name goes way back, and many members are very fond of it. So we just muddle along with it best we can.

Nice to see a new username around here. Hope to see more of you around the board.

There was a story about Kony this morning on NPR and it came back to me that Rush had endorsed Kony’s Christian works. I wonder if that will get any traction.

I don’t want to sound like a hipster but frankly I’m surprised so few people had heard of him, as others above have said he’s been on the rampage for years. I suppose I’d pay more attention to the news out of Uganda as my friend used to live there and her husband is from there but still I’ve read about him any number of times in the Guardian and the like.

I’d heard of the LRA before, but not him in particular. Dunno why.

Rush Limbaugh says this is all just more of Obama’s war on Christians:

In other words, if it doesn’t go in GQ, GD, CS, IMHO, or The BBQ Pit, it goes here.

I think you’re right, but it seems to me as if Invisible Children Inc. thinks that there is, in fact, a neat and clean solution, and they seem to be rather unreflectively supporting an organization that has, over the years, been as much a force for bad as a force for good in the very issue that they are addressing: the use of children in war.

Anyway, this photo of the Invisible Children founders is enough to make me want to lob a grenade into the middle of the bunch.
