The most Republican accident ever

Her wiki entry doesn’t mention Hare Krishna. It says she was married in a Vedic (Hindu) ceremony.

I thought we weren’t going to pursue this hijack, but since you are denying her Hare Krishna roots, let me provide more data. To be more specific, she was raised in an offshoot of the religion but from what I have read, there is a clear connection.

Gabbard became the first Hindu member of Congress, when she was elected to represent Hawaii in 2012, and took her oath of office with her hand on the Bhagavad Gita.

But Gabbard, 43, also has significant baggage, notably her support for autocratic leaders like Vladimir Putin of Russia and Bashar al-Assad of Syria.

The former congresswoman has also been dogged by her long-standing ties to the Science of Identity Foundation and its founder, Chris Butler. The Science of Identity Foundation is an offshoot of Hare Krishna that former members have described as a cult.

Thank you, I stand corrected. Apologies for continuing the hijack.

Darn, I was hoping they’d do a bocce video.

That was Boy George, not John Lennon. Man, when you hijack, you don’t kid around.

It was an accident, I swear it!

(But yes, I was terribly, horribly, totally wrong)

As a North Carolinian, since Tatterdemalion apologized for Jesse Helms, I’ll apologize for “Potty Time” Pat McCrory (even though he was born in Ohio?). He actually sounded sane during this last election cycle though.

As a former Ohioan, i will nor be apologizing. I only have a couple of hours.

I will say that this will a most Republican accident if it turns out he was never really paralyzed and this is just a grift…

Mr. Grimm served with a distinctive outlook in Congress. He showed greater character than the remainder of the Republican caucus when in April 2014 he became “the first sitting House Republican to stop denying the science that humans cause climate change.” He was far more honest than most Republican congressional representatives.

I feel for Michael Grimm, who resigned from Congress in 2015 after he was convicted of tax fraud. It can’t be easy losing the use of your legs. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Grimm had such an accident especially some 10 years after he pled guilty to felony tax fraud and, “acknowledged committing perjury, hiring illegal immigrants, and committing wire fraud”, assuming accounts of the accident are correct. Due diligence requires heightened suspicion of confirmed perjurers after all.

Wiki: On July 17, 2015, U.S. District Judge Pamela K. Chen suggested that Grimm’s moral compass “needs some reorientation” and sentenced him to eight months in prison. I hope that Mr. Grimm had a contemplative stay during his 6 month spiritual journey under custody in 2016.

I hope that Mr. Grimm has good insurance, of the kind that he wanted to deny to millions when he voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, following his enrollment in a government provided health care plan in Congress.

I wish Mr. Grimm well in the future, far better than Mr. Grimm wished for NY1-TV political reporter Michael Scotto whom Mr. Grimm threatened to, “Break in half”, and throw off a balcony.

Nobody should suffer such falls and if they do they should receive the benefits of the US safety net that Mr. Grimm worked so hard to tatter.

It’s not particularly a Republican accident, but Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen deserves a Bravado in the Face of Trauma award.

Pillen was bucked off a horse, suffering seven (7) broken ribs and assorted other injuries, including a partially collapsed lung, a “minor” vertebral fracture and lacerations to his spleen (necessitating removal?) and a kidney. And yet he is not only recovering nicely but will be “working from his hospital room”.

Maybe Pillen had to show he’s at least as tough as Nancy Pelosi, who at 84 fell down stairs, busted a hip and needed hip replacement but similarly had her office announce she was promptly back at work in her hospital room, turning out committee assignments, drafting bills and fixing the deficit or whatever.

We mortals would probably be content to rest semi-comfortably doped up on painkillers for awhile, but politicians are made of sterner stuff, or at least want us to think so.

I expect that for Pillen, the more wasted he is on opioids, the better his work product.

Absolutely true. He’s a lot less vindictive and cruel when on dope.

Technically not a Republican, but dying after swallowing a bee while playing polo seems to fit in this thread.

Gotta have an epi-pen on hand if prone to anaphylaxis following bee stings.

It’s possible that he’d never had such a reaction before.

True. According to this review, half of fatalities caused by insect stings occur without history of “sting reactions”, though that term covers a lot of ground.

As a present Ohioan, I completely agree with this assessment. It would be better to thank the few who haven’t sucked. I’ll put Sherrod Brown at the top of the list. Joyce Beatty, too.

I can’t believe no one commented on the fact that Trump pardoned Grimm in May.

Oh! And I live in Kentucky, so my apologies for Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul. And James Comer.

At least he is still paralyzed. Trump can’t pardon that.

Um, excuse me? California here. Just step aside.

The GFM still exists, and still gets donations. It’s up to $791,000 now.
