Firstly, this is just a poll and not a competition for this weekend. I’m not recommending drinking heavily. Secondly be aware that your liver needs time to heal between sessions, so binge drinking Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights isn’t all that healthy.
I’m just wondering how much people have drank in a single night? It obviously differs from person to person, depending on their weight, tolerance, sex and whether they prefer to follow the government’s guidelines (3-4 units a day? snort).
Also why use ‘Binge Drinking’ when our vernacular has so many colorful, interesting words like ‘discombobulated’?
The most ever was an around the world party. Every room had a different country and I almost got through them all in a little less than an hour. Then the room started wobbling and I was in the bathroom for hours. Hours. I barely remember it except that people had left the party, gone bar hopping and come back to say “dude you’re still in here?!” I’m pretty sure my stomach wandered down to the kitchen to find new things it could throw up when I ran out of stuff to supply.
I chose a bottle of vodka/whiskey but in actual fact I and an ex-girlfriend managed to polish off 2 and 1/2 bottles of vodka in one night (with Red Bull) and I think I probably drank more than her
That hangover was accompanied by hallucinations and cold sweats. Young/stupid does not always win the race!
I am not a drinker. I hate the taste of beer, but a little wine is ok. In my entire life, I’ve been relatively “incapacitated” exactly twice, and didn’t like it at all.
Not sure how to vote, as I don’t drink beer. If we’re going with ‘one beer equals one hard drink’ then…probably 12? If I’m ‘trying’ to get drunk <hey, it happens, usually I’m raving angry about something> then I tend to drink LESS, as I do shots fast and boom, I’m down for the count. I drink the most when I’m just trying to maintain a little buzz…and then my first through 4th drinks suddenly catch up to my fifth and after that it’s anyone’s game.
Was trying to get someone else drunk. He turned out to be a highly experienced alcoholic so we all ended up puking while he coached us through it. I guess it was about 10-12 shots of vodka, cognac, sherry, etc. Bleh. Still can’t even take any hard liquor but vodka.
That was a one-time thing. Three servings is usually my limit, and that happens once or twice a year.
I’ve cleared a fifth plus of whiskey in a night, without getting sick. The most I remember doing (while counting) is 30 shots of vodka plus who knows what from 10 a.m. to about midnight or 1 a.m. at my cousin’s wedding about 15 years ago.
Yeah, a fifth (a ‘bottle’ in UK speakidy) will not get me sick if it’s not on the back of one or more previous night’s drinking. The symptoms with me are definitely accumulative, even if I’m not drinking anything until the evenings. 3 nights of heavy drinking and I’m very ill.
30 shots! Sheesh. Mind you, over 14 hours the first 13 have been processed by your liver so you ‘only’ had maybe 17-20 shots in your system at any one time, plus half a dozen of them may not have been absorbed yet if you were eating as well.
I choose, “1 beer and I didn’t like it.” As it fit best… but I hate commentary in polls.
I very occasionally have a drink. I have never had more than on in an evening. Never felt the need or desire for more than one. But it isn’t because I didn’t like it, and it is rarely beer.
I chose four beers, but once I had four shots (two vodka and two rum) in about 30 seconds. I went from being sober to totally shitfaced very, very quickly.
Yeah, I had done the calculations. By all accounts, I figured I should be dead, but with all the food in my system, I actually was okay (as in not black-out drunk, puking, and falling over.) It’s weird. Sometimes I have three or four shots and I’m pretty good, and other times, I can drink a fifth and only feel reasonably buzzed. (Mind you, this does not happen often at all, but I used to play in a rock band, and me and the drummer used to be able to slug back the alcohol in cirrhotic amounts.)
I voted the sober once in '85 option because there’s no way I could actually calculate the amount I drank. And we’re talking uncountable quantities on multiple occasions.
The first was the night we “stocked up” when the first of us hit 21. Alone, I probably accounted for at least 3 fifths of hard liquor, some lower-proof spirits, and at least a half-dozen beers. Yeah, we stocked up, then proceeded to destroy our collection and our livers. That was a pretty typical amount for one of my bender nights. I honestly don’t know how I survived college.
First time I got drunk was when I was a sophmore in High School ( 14 or 15 ) and the list included:
*Most of a fifth of gin ( this was the big one )
*A couple of tumblers of white wine from a box
*A couple of shots of brandy
*A lot of some sort of lime mixer ( contained alcohol )
*A couple of beers
*Possibly other stuff in varying quantities raided from my folk’s supply ( rum? ), it started to blur a bit
I was hugely, explosively sick. Sick enough ( all over the living room couch ) that my folks took pity on me and figured I’d learned my lesson. I’m thankful to the alcoholic father of one of my step-brother’s friends who consulted over the phone and made sure my brothers laid me on my side so I wouldn’t choke to death on my own vomit :).
I’m also glad I puked. Otherwise I’m guessing alcohol poisoning might have been a real danger.
I made a much more humiliating display of myself at a party at the home of a college professor, but I blame cold medication for triggering that epic meltdown ( on less booze, I’m fairly sure ).
I voted 4 beers but I doubt I’ve ever gone past three beers, or three glasses of wine, or a couple of mixed drinks (like rum and coke). I don’t drink much at all.
I voted 12 beers and a pizza, but I don’t drink beer so it’s based on hard alcohol, and usually it’s not combined with eating. At any rate I haven’t gone much above 12 in a day even when I spread it out over a day (but once or twice I’ve had that 12 all at once!)
But yeah, that heavy a drink session and I don’t feel much like drinking a lot the next two days.
One Paddy’s day when I was at uni we started at 11 when the pubs opened, and didn’t stop until 7am the next day. I think we worked out we’d had about 16 pints (that’s big British pints, not your wee American ones) in the pubs, and god knows how much at the subsequent party. And dropped some mushrooms IIRC. Felt fine the next day, too.
One of my friends turned up at my door at 9 the next morning and apologised for his behaviour at the party.
“You weren’t at the party though,” I told him. “You disappeared just after we left the pub.”
He went white: “Where the hell was I? And why are my knees all torn up but my trousers are completely OK!?”
