You do not talk about Fight Club.
^THIS!
To emphasize that it’s a Very Important Rule.
Em-pha-sisssss!
Thanks. I though there could be a deeper reason. I must stop believing people have intention within intention within intention within intention within intention.
Also, and more literally, it originally appeared in the list of rules in the novel by Chuck Palahniuk
3-) Hi Opal!
No poofters!
What are the three most important factors in a successful business?
Location, location, location.
Harold Samuel (attrib. )
Get it?
The growth of fight club, and its independent cells, depends on people talking about fight club. But talking about it secretively, with nudges and winks, enhances the exclusivity and thus attractiveness of the club. If people felt free to talk about it openly then it wouldn’t be such a popular club.
Hence the rule. Hence the repetition (I’m serious - don’t talk about it!). And hence the zero enforcement of the rule.
I wouldn’t say zero, after all they tried to castrate Ed Norton (Did his character have a name? I can’t remember.) when he talked to the police, so it’s more about not talking about it to the wrong people.
It’s a, I say, it’s a joke, son.
BTW… one of if not THE best movie I have ever seen. Unique, well acted, great plot, funny and dark. Such a gem and worth watching many times over.
Do NOT post in a Thread about Fight Club!
ETA: :smack:
If this is your first thread about Fight Club, you HAVE to post.
No, he didn’t. He was simply the narrator in the book, if memory serves.
In the movie I think the credits list him as ‘jack’, but that’s probably because in the movie he reads through a bunch of books about ‘jacks…’ (various body parts).
Actually, it’s:
Usually, when someone includes something in a list twice, it is followed by, “Yes, I know I already said it, but I want to make sure that they really mean this one.”
That’s only for a list with only two items. We all know that the 3rd rule of Fight Club is…
If someone says “stop” or goes limp, taps out the fight is over.
How about writing about fight club? Can you write about fight club?
And how about texting or tweeting?
Nobody said no tweeting about fight club.
