The Movie: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe--possible spoilers

Drat. I wanted to correct someone or other about no Talking Beasts dying, but someone else got there first. And about Tirian.

Tamerlane is right. My husband and I watched Firefly because of Serenity, and loved both.

I saw the movie yesterday, and liked it, but didn’t love it the way I loved LOTR. Maybe that was partly because I had a greater emotional attachment to Tolkien. Who knows. Anyway, I missed some of the lines that other posters have mentioned, but the second Talking Lion is in the battle, and Edmund does draw spectacles and a moustache on him. It’s visible at the end.

Liked the acting, liked the effects, although they were sometimes a bit too LOTR.

My main complaint was that there was too much “What can I do? I’m just little!” and “I only want to save my family!”. I thought it detracted from the tone. I know it was supposed to show character development and struggle but for me it detracted. In the books the children decide to help because the Witch is clearly evil, and because the Beavers and the other animals are clearly good, and suffering. Helping them is the right thing to do, even if it’s dangerous. You do the thing that’s good, even if you get discouraged at times.

I missed the scene where Mr. Beaver brings them inside, and Mrs. Beaver is at a sewing maching and wearing glasses.
