This is my take on Taiwanese rapper Jay Chou’s song “Grandmother” done via The Movies PC game, which throws in a bit of a historical war epic, and will probably be the last music video I create for a while.
A couple of things I’ve managed to do for this MV are:
English subtitles for the lyrics, mainly because of the extensive rapping sequence in the middle of the song. However, I’m debating whether or not to have included them, because the subtitles might end up being a bit distracting, since the MV is an abstraction of the spirit of the song (Jay’s sympathy for his neglected grandmother), the lyrics sound a bit clunky translated into English, and a lot of stuff goes on during the video. But they are there if any non-Mandarin speakers need them.
Speaking of rapping, I’ve managed to get the lipsync to 90% during rapping sequence, and for the most part, so it seems to actually fit what’s being said!
Ok - now I realize why all of the comments on They Came For Your Brain said “Good, but really could use more dialogue” and “I kind of got lost at this point”… the assigned voice tracks didn’t upload! When I edited the film in postproduction, I hit play, hit record, spoke into the mike, hit stop, assigned it to a character by selecting the character’s name, slid it to the proper starting location in the film, and when I played the whole thing, I could hear all of the dialogue…
…but the uploaded version doesn’t have any of that, only the default mumbling of actors. What did I do wrong?
No, I only had a dozen or so audio tracks. Tomorrow I’ll try a single-scene movie, add some dialogue, and see if I can pinpoint where things went wrong.
Concerning music tracks…Let’s say I want the first part of a track to play and then fade out before it would normally end…how would I go about doing that? I can’t find instructions on that anywhere and thus my music selections are always too long. Well, normally anyway.
I’ve just posted my entry into the official Christmas competition. Wouldn’t mind some honest critiques, since as soon as I posted it, I had two mediocre 3 star reviews pop up with no explanations. Immediately dropped me to 3500th place or so.
I just watched and left you a review. I liked it… I pretty well knew where it was going, but the last line just took it home! I see that you’re also making use of the new items at the propshop.
Liberty Studios is pleased to announce their official Web site is now open! For now, the site only features films written by me that have been made for gameplay purposes, but in the future, I may create films intended solely for online audiences. Enjoy!
The Movies: Stunts and Effects arrived this week, so I’m back in the game. Lots of great updates in the expansion, the main one being the “freecam.” You can finally position your shots however you want.
There are also new sets and all that, as well as lots of stunts you can force your actors to do (or their stunt doubles). Overall it seems like a worthy addition.
I’ve been playing around with it tonight. Here’s my first creation:
Excuse the horrid voice acting. I don’t have a good voice for this at all and I’m too lazy to get someone else to do it. I didn’t use too many stunts, but you can see the variety in the scenes (like the computer usage) I got by shooting them at different angles. Pretty cool!
