The Mt Rushmore of SNL

My local morning radio station stikes again with their weekly Mt Rushmore of _____. I loved this weeks topic of The Mt. Rushmore of SNL Stars… here’s what I came up with…

  1. Jim Belushi

  2. Chris Farley

  3. Will Farrell

  4. Mike Meyers

I know I know Eddie Murphy… Adam Sandler… this is hard!

You go!

I hope to God you mean John.

Gotta go with the “Founding Fathers” on this: Chase, Ackroyd, Murray, JOHN Belushi.

Hard to leave Gilda off…

John Belushi
Chevy Chase
Dan Aykroyd
Gilda Radner

Yes, I am old-school. So shoot me.

Uh…no.

Gilda Radner (one of the originals…also a female)

Dan Akroyd (very hard between him and Bill Murray…interchangable but I went with Dan because I think Bill’s movie career went further, so Dan is known more for SNL)

Phil Hartman (From the second golden age of SNL. I used Phil because he was primarily SNL, the others (Sandler, Myers, Carvey etc.) were movies as well.

Will Ferrell. (From the third golden age of SNL.)

Bill Murray wasn’t one of the original cast.
That is why I chose the late, great Ms. Radner.

Amy Poehler is the best female star in the history of SNL and deserves to be there. Along with Dan Ackroyd, John Belusi, and Eddie Murphy.

It’s hard for me to limit it to 4, but I’d say Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Dana Carvey, and Eddie Murphy.

4 is just not enough, in my oppinion, because John Belushi should be in there too. I’m going with Murray and Akroyd as lynchpins of the original group (I know Murray came in a little later), and both Murphy and Cravey owned the show and its audience with every sketch they were in while they were there.

Meyers, Tina Fey, Farley are all right up there, too.

Phil Hartman, unquestionably.
John Belushi, ditto.
Dan Aykroyd.
Tina Fey.

:smack: Oh hell yes I did. Crap.

Rosanna Rosannadanna
Lisa Loopner
Baba Wawa
Judy Miller

…so I’m prejudiced, what can I say?

John Belushi
Dana Carvey
Eddie Murphy
Jane Curtin (my vote for the best female member, I never got the Gilda vibe).

75’-79’ John Belushi
80’-84’ Eddie Murphy
86’-93’ Dana Carvey
95’-02’ Will Ferrell

  1. John Belushi
  2. Phil Hartman
  3. Mike Myers
  4. Eddie Murphy

Chevy Chase can’t seriously be considered owing to the short time he was a cast member, in my view. I mean if he died in 1977, maybe I’d give him a break.

The two easy picks are Belushi and Hartman. The other two can definitely be debated.

Dan Aykroyd
Phil Hartman (his Sinatra slayed me)
Bill Murray
Norm Macdonald (best Weekend Update anchor)

Eddie Murphy
Chris Farley
Phil Hartman
Dan Aykroyd

Hard to leave Will Ferrell off. He’d bet my honorable mention, along with Belushi, Murray, Short, and Sandler.

Boy, that’s hard.

Trying to spread the love among the eras, I would say:

Aykroyd
Murray
Murphy
Farrell

With honarable mentions to Hartman (I hated leaving him out), Belushi, Sandler and Myers.

For women I would have Gilda Radner, Victoria Jackson, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, but I don’t think any of them are in the top 4 overall.

By era…

Dan Aykroyd
Eddie Murphy
Phil Hartman
Will Ferrell

Sorry, no love for the Farley, Sandler, etc, crowd - they weren’t that funny to me. And when I think about it, none of the ladies were top-caliber to me either…

Or so the Germans would have us believe.
