The Myron Cope Memorial Steelers March to the Super Bowl Thread

That was something, wasn’t it? What was with those weird unsportsmanlike calls? The refs didn’t exactly cover themselves with glory last night, but at least the calls seemed to balance out a little bit.

I bumped this for one reason and one reason only: to brag. Oh, you season ticket holders won’t be impressed, but the rest of you may envy me as you will: I got tickets to the Giants game at Heinz on the 26th.

It’s called “covering a receiver.” I don’t know why our defense isn’t doing that.

Pathetic. Let’s hope they’re not smart enough to pass on us in the second half.

Let’s see if Ben can get back on track in the 2nd half. That was like watching two different teams in the 1st half!

What the fuck. Our secondary is playing prevent defense in the third quarter?

Only saw the second half. I was mostly pleased. From the comments I’m guessing the first half was poor. But 39-10 is a respectable score.

I was in Little Rock working the airshow so I missed the game. Did I miss anything important or was it just another sound thrashing of the Bengals?

For all but the last drive of the second quarter, yes. We were only up by 10, and the Bengals utilized the two minute offense and drove right down the field with ease. You know how loose our secondary tends to cover the pass. If the Bengals had been smart enough to come out in the second half doing the same thing, the outcome of the game may have been much different.

Yea, the unheralded Steelers did prevail over the mighty Ryan Fitzpatrick and the fierce Bengal Tigers of Cincinnati, as David slew the mighty Goliath.

Don’t be bitter now.

Just this, possibly another fine for Hines although it looked like a clean hit to me. He’s been fined each of the past two games for $15,000 I think. James Harrison was fined $20,000 for criticizing the officials. I think Goodell likes the Steelers; I like the way Harrison plays when he’s angry

Santonio Holmes to be charged with smoking pot! Right before one of our toughest games… this can’t be good for Sunday.

That’s not good at all. The Giants corners are on the slower side so this could have been a big game for him. I hope Sweed is finally ready to step up.

They won’t have time to suspend him before the game. He wasn’t charged at the scene, but via mail, and hasn’t actually received the citation yet.

It’s good to hear that. This is a game where I think they really need him. I’m hoping they throw him some slants or screens to try and negate the pass rush a bit. The O-line looked good against the Bengals but, let’s face it, the Bengals only have 5 sacks on the season and are in a different class than the Giants right now.

Longer term for Santonio, I think Kevin Faulk only received a one game suspension when he was busted for the same thing, let’s hope that’s all Holmes gets.

Well, I hope it wasn’t too good to hear that, because the team has deactivated him for the game, citing concerns about him being “a distraction”.

No word on whether it will count toward a potential suspension.

It’s just unfortunate because he’s really their only ‘speed’ guy. With all the talk regarding the sacks, people are blaming the line, blaming Ben for holding the ball too long. I really think that a big part of the problem is the receivers just aren’t getting open often enough or quickly enough. The Giants are a team I think he could make some plays against. On the plus side maybe we’ll see some good things from Sweed, silver lining and all that.

Nate Washington is pretty fast, isn’t he?

Wow. 3 good quarters canceled by one bad one. Hike it eight feet in the air? And what was with the punt on the kick off?
