I have a copy of The Neverending Story by Michael Ende that I got at a used bookstore for $25. It’s one of my most favorite books (I loved the film too). I wasn’t even really looking for the book, I just saw it by chance and knew I had to have it.
I heard from another fan of the book that the edition I have is rather hard to find and may be worth more than I paid. My edition is a hardcover bound in red cloth, with green and red printing and green and red illustrations as well. It has a book jacket with painted medieval-style illustrations of the characters in the book. According to the info in the inside cover it’s the 3rd printing, published in 1983.
Any book buffs out there that might know anything? I can provide more info if needed. There seems to be very little info about it that I can find and I’m quite curious.
Wow! My book pretty much exactly fits the descriptions given in your links, especially the third one - my edition has the marbeled inside covers too. it’s also in excellent condition. That’s cool. I’d never sell it, it’s a beautiful book - but now I might see if I should get a polybag to protect it further.
It is. If you can get your hand on any of Michael Ende’s other books, they’re well worth the read, too.
AFAIK, though, they’re all out of print in North America except for Momo. You might be able to get them through import, however (or a used bookstore! )
When I first read the book, I read a paperback from the library that had the different coloured printing in it. When I went looking for a copy to buy many years later, I was surprised and disappointed to see that that style wasn’t the standard, it was a special version. Shame.
This sounds like the copy Mom picked up when I was a kid. When I found out she’d taken it to the used book store while I was off at college, I was disconsolate. It just isn’t the same reading it in black print.
