So…your appliances all match in color. They are of varying ages. You cannot afford to replace everything at once (nor do you want to, as that would be wasteful). Do you buy your new stove in the finish you’d like to end up with on all appliances (knowing you may have to live with unmatched appliances for 5 years or more) or do you forego the favored finish and stick with your existing finish so you have matchiness?
Buy the one you want. If it’s stainless, it won’t matter much. I tell clients they can mix stainless and black all day long and it will look fine. When you start getting stainless, black, white and almond in one room it can begin to look a little funny.
Matchiness! I like that word!
If you have a kitchen that is circ. 1975 i.e. off yellow with brown dials and really want stainless steel…it may look a little odd.
If you have mostly white appliances, or black ones, then adding a stainless appliance wouldn’t be that bad.
My wife and I really wanted one of those fridges that looked like a cabinet. Was it worth the 5k for aesthetics in the end? No.
We ended up with a side by side cheaper scale stainless with water and ice on the front.
If we could afford all WOLF appliances we would. But normal people purchasing one appliance a year in a house they plan on spending a long time in, is no big deal in my opinion.
Heh.
My fridge is black, my dishwasher is stainless, and my stove is white. Nobody has run screaming from the lack of matchiness yet.
The reason it’s like this is that the appliances in the kitchen were black when we bought the house. I brought my own stove - a pricey dual fuel that I’m not anxious to replace - which is white. Then last spring the dishwasher needed replacing, and we want stainless eventually, so we went with stainless.
I was worried at first that it would look silly, but it doesn’t. And now that I’m noticing such things, I’ve seen mis-matched appliances at more than a few friends/relatives homes. I never even noticed 'em before, so I figure that it’s a pretty minor thing.
I’ve got almond now. I’m finding that not only am I sick to death of it, but it’s not too popular anymore. You really can’t find it.
We were at Best Buy the other day and noticed that I can get a stainless stove for the same price as the white one. I love stainless and think it will retain it’s popularity forevah. My almond sink looks like shit and I vowed to go stainless on that regardless of how the rest of the kitchen turns out. Mr. K is all, “you’ll be lacking the matchiness!!” But I say:
-
We hate our fuckin’ fridge with the heat of a thousand suns. It works, but it’s 12 years old, so I can envision it taking a dirt nap in another 5 years.
-
Dishwashers are pretty cheap to replace. Ours is probably 6 years old and only cost a few hundred bucks. With our ultra-hard-rusty water, it’s just a matter of time.
-
Your opinion doesn’t hold much water with me since you don’t do much interacting with the appliances.
I’m thinking a stainless sink and stove with an almond fridge and dishwasher won’t be too hideous.
I agree. I vote yes! to stainless.
You have it much easier than my Dad. After Mom died, he had to slowly replace everything in her kitchen - which was all TURQUOISE.
Man, that’s harsh. But turquoise was the shit, once upon a kitchen.
Where are you shopping? PM me for my contact guy at Abt, I’ve given him literally over a million dollars in business over the years.
I still have a ceramic cookie jar, which I made for her, when I was 14 (I inherited it back). Of course, it’s turquoise!! Gah!! We all laugh about it now, but every dang thing that woman owned was that color.
I’m in the northwest suburbs. Isn’t Abt a little more high end than Best Buy and Sears? I’m only looking to spend about $800 on the stove.
Let me see what I can do, give me a day or so, Monday and Tuesday are kind of nuts both here and at the appliance places. What features/colors were you most interested in?
Is it possible to build in existing appliances (fridge/dishwasher) in behind matching cabinet doors?
