The New Schwinn Stingray

Have any of you seen this? My 7 year old son is so gonna get this as soon as I get the money. The great thing is that it is only ~$179! It was designed in partnershp with America’s darling dysfunctional family du jour, the Teutles of American Chopper.

It is being sold through ToysRus and Wal Mart starting in April. Allegedly there is a much nicer aluminium frame version coming out later in the year but I’m gonna check out the basic one when it comes out and see if it is sufficient.

I like it! Thanks for the heads up. Looks pretty rugged. Not as cool as my Schwinn “Lemon Peeler” back when I was a kid, but looks good by todays standards. sezyou Jr. is going to love it.

These are cool enought to make me wish I were 12 again, or to have a 12 year old I could buy it for.

On the page they mention the "krate" series of stingrays, with the stickshift, 16" front wheels, and shocks. Had an Orange Krate when I was a sprog, bought it with the money I got covering friend's paper routs while they were on summer vacation.

I was the first "big" thing I ever bought with my own money. I felt like a real chopper guy in the saddle of that bike. And to know that it was all mine, made that ultra cool bike all the more cool.

It will always hold a special place in my heart.

I had a hand me down Grey Ghost when I was a kid, I wish I still had it as good condition Krates, Peelers, and Ghosts are going for thousands now!

I read somewhere that there was some cunfusion about the wheels and whether they were metal or  plastic !

If they are plastic I may have to wait till the better quality versions show up at the Schwinn dealers later in the year.

Hiya,

I had an Orange Krate too.

Had to have it, had to had to had to.

My brother got a ten speed. I made a very bad decision and ended up with —

and Orange Krate.

I wish I had kept it

This one is on sale for $3,500
