The New Subaru Impreza...

Has anyone seen this new Impreza WRX? This thing kicks ass. I have bene admiring it for quite a long time now, and I love everything about it. The happy-looking front end, with the Dodge-Neon like Headlamps. The engine in that puppy is awesome too… 0-60 in 5.8, that’s on a V4 too. It has a gigantic turbo charger in it, that once that tachometer hits 3000 rpm, BAM, it takes off like a rocket. I have only had the opportunity to drive it once, and it was like a dream. Nice handling too… all this for $25,000, that’s a lot of bang for the buck…anyone been admiring this beauty?

Let me tell ya man I’ve been admiring that car since I heard about it on the other side of the pond. I’ve been a big fan of Subaru’s ever since my friend let me drive his AWD '94 Legacy. That was a sweet car… to bad about the fucking deer that jumped in front of it. Anyways I’m with ya on it. My jaw dropped when I saw that it was around $25,000. Ahhh Subaru my second favorite car company…

Yes and no.

Yes, it’s probably the best bang-for-your-bucks in that price range. And it’s nice that you Yanks can have a go at it too now - its predecessor never made it to the States.
I test-drove one a few weeks ago, and it’s quite a sporty saloon, with an excellent acceleration and an awesome sound. Fairly easy to drive, not nervous at all.

However: it ain’t no Impreza GTT. I’m talking about the “old” model here. THAT was an animal. Compared to it, the new one’s slightly… dull. Sure, it hits 100 km/h in 5.8 secs, but the old model made you FEEL it more.

A sweet, sweet machine. The WRX has been in Australia for a few years now. A lovely beast; handles like it’s on rails.

I’m on a winding mountain road in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. I’m driving a V8 5 litre Ford. At 120km/h, I slow down to 95km/h for a curve (any faster and I’d lose it). As I enter the curve, I look in my rear-vision mirror, and see empty road for the 50-100 metre straight behind me. Seconds later, this thing whizzes past me at about (WAG) 140km/h. A WRX of course. It ate that curve for breakfast.

I love that car.

Minor nitpick. It has a flat 4.

And yeah, its a heck of a car. My wife almost bought a new RS last year, but decided that would be $30K better towards paying down the mortgage. We test drove a WRX last week and we both like it a lot more than the older one. Now, its just for her to decide if $35K is better spent on the mortgage again and wait a while longer…

I was checking out the WRX this morning when I dropped my Legacy GT off for it’s 15000 mile service. Sweet. Maybe I should have asked for that as my loaner car.
