It really looks like it’s Newsday for me too. I only get The Times on Sunday. It just pisses me off to see The News acting worse than The Enquirer.
I wonder if I can e-mail them this thread.

Cool! Maybe they’ll print it on the letter page, in between the “We-must-nuke-Saddam-now-so-he-doesn’t-terrorize-us-like-he-did-on-9/11-that-WAS-Saddam-wasn’t-it” letter, and the “I-left-my-wallet-in-a-taxicab-and-the-cabbie-brought-it-right-to-my-house-in-Assboink-Idaho-I-LOVE-New-York” letter!
Look Ike, don’t make fun of my pain at being reduced to reading a Long Island Newspaper. Now instead of the those comfortably familiar letters to the editor, I’ve got to contend with the local eldermen from Hicksville caught boinking his secretary on the LIRR. That wasn’t so bad, until pictures of his unkempt lawn made into the paper. At least I’ll know those are really pictures of Elderman Boink’s actual unkempt lawn.
Biggirl, Newsday has a city edition focusing mostly on Queens but some Brooklyn. No (OK, very few) LIRR stories. I hate it when, for whatever reason, I get delivered the LI edition instead. Still, same subway-friendly size, same comic spread (better than the Post but worse than the News).
The Daily News used to be a pretty good newspaper. It even did real investigative reporting on NYC issues that started governmental investigations. Then it turned into the J.Lo-Joe Millionaire-bondage girl paper, with incredibly important front page coverage of J.Lo’s butt, shown off in different dresses. Now all it has worth reading are the comics. It hasn’t been the same since Lars-Erik Nelson died.
That said, I thought the photo illustration looked pretty phony and it didn’t mislead me at all. I was more upset by the bondage girl picture on the front page a couple of weeks ago.
On preview, I must add that Newsday’s old New York Newsday was a fabulous paper. Then it was killed by the CEO that owned the company that used to own both my company and Newsday. He was an ass. I don’t know how good the new New York Newsday is.
I loved New York Newsday. I used to buy both the Daily News and NY Newsday when they had a real NYC edition. There slogan was pretty funny too: NY Newsday, ahead of the news and in front of the times. Hehe.
They way it reads now does not imply that to me. I guess YMMV.
BTW, the Headline was Saddam TO Bush" Let’s Debate not AND.
Thank you for recognizing my brilliance. Based on your own description of the front page (which is what I used) you were able to decifer that the picture was not real. How did you accomplish this? OH MY GOD!!! You read the front page!!! I must congratulate YOU on your keen detective work. Had you cousin decided to do the same this thread would not have been possible.
My point about the other media sources is simple. Try to stay with me here. Almost anyone who had either already heard of the challenge by SH (lets say on TV) or had with them OTHER papers (and God forbid read the articles) would have been able to decifer the great mystery of the DN headline. Pssst…SH challened GWB to a debate.
Question: Were you decieved by the headline? You state that your cousin, son and co-worker all were. All of whom DID NOT bother to READ the article in the paper (or completely read the front page).
I am not trying to defend the crap that NYDN or NYP put on their headlines. I just believe that DN headline does not merit the criticism you gave it.
Wow that took me a long time to type.
Anyway, Biggirl, I think Ike was making fun of Voice of the People in the DN (not Newday). Ike, I just hope you keep your legs closed while sitting on the subway. That debate leasted a few weeks too.
I also agree that the city edition of Newday was much better than the Post of DN.
No NYR407, I’m not saying that Saddam calling out Bush isn’t newsworthy. I’m saying that the NY Daily News is putting out crap and they should be ashamed of themselves. I may be saying some of the other things you are accusing me of saying, but I’m not sure because your genius has exceeded my understanding of your English.
You don’t think that the NY Daily News merits my criticism for putting out a misleading front page? Then I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Fair enough. But you did not mention any of the other crap the DN was putting out. You specifically were in The Pit about the Tuesday (2/25/03) headline. There was no mention of any of the other contents of the DN until later posts. In fact you considered them a step above the rest until that headline. Your complaint was that they used four pages on this subject. I much rather this subject than J Lo and the like.
Please show me where I misrepresented what you were saying and I will gladly retract.
Will you at least answer my question. Were YOU deceived by the headline? You never mention that you were.
I also tried finding the front page on the web site but could only find the article.
I may still have the paper at home. FYI, I don’t even remember the front page (Yes I read the Tuesday DN) but knew about the debate challenge the day before.
Wha?
They’re (ostensibly) a newspaper! They put a doctored!
picture!
on the front page!
In what universe is this not worthy of criticism?
Argggh!!
They’re playing catch up with THE NEW YORK POST.
Fucking glargh! Just like CNN-oh-we-have-to-be-conservative-like-FOX. NO, YOU DON’T, ASSMONKEYS! I really wish they’d counter-program, and inject some – what was their credo? – truth and honesty back into the NY papers.
Ah well, until the NY Times listens to my annual e-mail and runs the goddamn comic strips, I’ll still have to read the wannabe’s at the NY Daily News – Oh, I’m sorry, that’s the Daily Inquirer’s News:
Secret photos of Jackson’s new nose coming soon!
