The Nigerian Scam Gets Worse

Man, these guys just don’t quit.

Those guys must have done something wrong, because I got 750,000 from some Nigerians just last week.

I wish I could edit that to add a sarcastic smiley at the end of it :D. There that will have to do.

Does anyone in Nigeria ever do anything but make up bogus e-mail? (And I am aware that they don’t necessarily all come from Nigeria)

You know, I read once that this particular scam makes up a good chunk of Nigeria’s GNP. Or I think I did, can’t find it now.

According to an article I read, Nigeria scams are the 7th leading source of income in Nigeria. No joke, even though I lack a cite for it.

Personally, I feel anyone who falls for this sort of thing deserves what they get. Sometimes I feel our gene pool has gotten WAY to polluted.

There is a take-off on it at http://www.welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com

That site is hilarious. My favorite:

“We will kill them all…most of them.”

I swear, Joe Isuzu ought to sue him for impersonation.

I’m not sure what you read, but this article here backs up your point. Nigerian scammers are the core business for Internet cafes in Lagos. And that’s with a success rate of only one percent!

Man, why can’t I come up with a good scam?

Kinda makes you wonder where they’d be if they applied themselves to legitimate pursuits.

Don’t worry, I have the perfect one. It can’t fail. I just need a few thousand to get it off the ground. What do you say?

Interesting this should come up now. One of our business e-mail got a 419 e-mail this week so we’ve been talking about it. What makes it so unusual is that it came directly to a highly protected address, but none of the other addresses that are easier to get.

It arrived at an address we use only as outgoing mail to confirm the shipment of orders that have been paid in full. It’s a small business too, so it’s notlike that address goes out to hundreds every month. Interesting.

In any case, the letter was a newer one. They send two copies because they forgot to fill in one of their fields.

Libertarian, I was all over that site just this morning (a riot! I laughed! I cried! It was better than “Cats!”) and didn’t see anything about a scam. Where was it?

It’s on this page, a parody of the Nigerian scam. See “Email Spammer - He has a very important business opportunity just for you”.
