The NIKE Air Hypocrisy 2000

No, it isn’t a new shoe. They are currently running the “Mrs. Jones on the Radio” TV commercials which complain that women athletes are not paid as much as the men in the same sport (tennis, basketball, whatever).

Are we to believe that Nike pays the women of the WNBA the same amount of endorsement dollars that Michael Jordan got? Or even Vince Carter or some of the rising stars.

The only listing for endorsement dollars for athletes I could find was a 1997 Forbes list.

Does anyone know where there’s a listing of the contracts for Nike’s athletes? I’m curious if they put their money where their mouth is.

I would think there’s a roughly proportional relationship between the dollars (gate revenues, TV contracts, merchandise, etc) that an athlete generates and what that athlete is paid in endorsements, prize money and so on.
