I’ve heard that there is a air force guy that follows POTUS around with a briefcase with nuclear launch codes. He is supposed always be only a few steps away.

So when Bush goes cycling or plays golf…the AF guy is following him around in sweat pants carrying a leather suitcase?

What happens when the AF guy has to make number 2? Who holds the football?

Does this guy have any other responsibilities? He’s probably some officer with nothing to do but wait for armageddon. He should at least help out around the office and make some coffee or do some filing.

Well don’t take this as definitive of course, but in a episode of JAG, Bud gets this assignment for one day. The show says the assignment is rotated amongst military personnel. So it’s not just one “specialist” doing this.
