Is Jesus related in some fashion to these ancient Egyptian deities?
All monotheistic religions are related. Ashterah is Isis is the mother godess, While Jealous is Yahweh is the sun god, etc. Meanwhile, old gods are either demons or saints.
However, there may or may not be a factual answer to your particular question.
What?
Are you saying Jesus lived two blocks down the street from The Beast?
It’s a tricky question, and probably not answerable factually. Relations can be found between practically any two things under the sun. I’m sure you’ve heard the “uncanny” similarities between Lincoln and Kennedy.
The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost a son while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both were shot behind the head. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners. Both successors were named Johnson.
Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Lincoln was elected President in 1860. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy’s secretary was named Lincoln.
A month before Lincoln was shot he was in Monroe, Maryland. A month before Kennedy was shot he was with Marilyn Monroe.
Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.
John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are made of fifteen letters.
Mr. Booth shot Lincoln in a Theatre called “Ford”. Lee Harvey Oswald, shot Kennedy in a car called “Ford” Lincoln. Booth ran from a theater and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.
Booth and Oswald both were assassinated before their trials.
Assuming that all that is true, is there some sort of relation between Kennedy and Lincoln?
They’re realted in he sense that they’re both associated with the sun. The Gnostic Ogdoad was the invisible “sun behind the sun.” The Egyptian Ogdoad was the eight deities who existed before- and created- the sun. So there is a semiotic relationship in that they both symbolized the creative forces behind the visible universe. An Gnostic named Valentinius grouped them into opposing masculine and femine pairs similar to the Egyptian model (Valentinius’ creative forces were not deities, however, it was stuff like “mind and truth”).
It would seem that the Gnostics reworked a preexisting model and adapted it to their own beliefs but there is nothing unusual about that in Christianity. Practically all the iconography in early Christianity came from paganism.
Ogdoad means,“the cardinal number that is the sum of seven and one.” It is a synonymn for eight.
So, when ogdoad is used it is a descriptor of eight. The 8 creator gods of egyptian mythology are “The Ogdoad (of Egyptian mythology)” and when used in gnostic reference “The Ogdoad (the number of the savior (888))”.
No real connection other than they share the number 8 in common. Whether that is a mystical signifier is up to you and/or numerology.
Ogdoad? :dubious:
You long-haired hippie Commies, Og is not dead! Og’s gonna smash you! Og…
Oh, doad.
Nice link, SomeGuy!
Thanks, Welcome, I hope you stay around.

Why do you say that? Barbara opines that some of them are dumb, and some of them are unremarkable, and some of them are superficial, but that only one of them is outright wrong — and that’s the one that’s supposed to be just for funnies. She doesn’t even label the comparison as a whole as “False”, the way she normally does with legends she feels she has debunked. Therefore, your blanket assertion that it is “a false assumption” is overreaching at the very least.
Words evolve over time. Ogdoad became Ogdad (or father.) Ogdad became Ogdude, the surfer god. Now, it’s just Og.
