The Obamas at home

I read an account of Obama’s campaign in which a staff member said it was a running joke amongst the staff that Barack was much more relaxed and easygoing after he had spent a night with his wife. I found that very endearing.

That was in Newsweek; I remember that.

Great photoessay - many thanks. I’m very proud of our President, and glad he seems to have taken to White House life so easily and so well.

Isn’t that pretty much normal for loving couples? I know it’s true for me and my wife.

i think what makes the obama’s stand out relationship wise, is that he is as deeply invested as she is. as chique mentioned above, with other presidents it seemed the men were a bit removed.

i’m sure each loved and loves their wife, but it always seemed the relationships were a bit tipped. if i had to go with a presidential couple that would be close to the obama dynamic, i would go with john and abigail adams.

equipoise, his hand is what i noticed first in that picture, his face second. there is an interesting energy in his hand.

I love how they so unselfconsciously hold hands all the time too. My husband and I still do that after 27 years.

Here are a bunch of nice photos of the couple.

Did anyone else notice in this picture from the OP photo essay, that President Obama has his hand resting on the First Lady’s butt? That’s so cute!

A few of these, especially the “quiet, reflective” ones get a little creepier when you consider the only other person in the room had to be the photographer. The pictures of the meals seemed a little strange, too.

Overall, though, those are some nice photos.

I know what you mean, but this particular photographer has been with Obama for his entire campaign and they feel very comfortable with each other. He probably doesn’t even notice she’s there anymore.

I thought the meals were interesting. Strange yes, but how often do we get to see a meal, wrapped in plastic, waiting for the president to arrive? It’s an odd little thing. And bonus for the classified documents next to the plate. What secrets are within? It’s intriguing.
