The obligatory Super Bowl commercials thread.

I’m not normally a fan of soda ads, but I liked the one with Jackie Chan and the ‘stunt can’.

I loved the Streaker and the Careerbuilder.com stuff.

The GoDaddy.com spot was pretty sorry. It looked like there was a funny idea in there somewhere, but was edited within an inch of its life and ended up just looking muddled.

Hated the Jay Mohr/Pepsi stuff.

The guys who made that are from here, and I’m acquainted with one who works there. They had to send it thru either ABC or NFL censors 14 times before they let it air. The guy has a near heart-attack because he sees a boob?? I still don’t know what godaddy.com is. Too lazy to even click the link. And they reran it in the 4th quarter, didn’t bother to come up with another different one.

Pepsi usually has my favorite ones, but this year they sucked air. That McGyver one has aired before, I’ve seen it at least once.

I also liked the caveman/Fed Ex one. That was funny.

I don’t think this has been posted yet, but here’s a link to most/all of them:

I loved that spot. It was my favorite.

And I have just researched godaddy.com. It’s a website site. If you want to develop your own website, you go there and you can buy a domain name and they’ll help you get up and running. Very odd that they would spend all that money on camisole straps breaking and old guys sucking oxygen when this is what their product is.

You just went there and found out what it was, didn’t you?

Yeah I read the saga on their website. It was pretty obvious they had to hack it up to make it work with the network. The “web only” version at least made more sense (but still wasn’t funny).

Nobody is a little distressed that Diet Pepsi’s new slogan is evidently “brown and bubbly”? Brown and bubbly?! If I were trying to craft Pepsi’s image, the last word I’d associate with it is “brown”, let me tell you. They even call it “caramel coloring” on the ingredients, do they not?

And I got a little misty about the Clydesdale colt.

What can brown and bubbly do for you?

They mentioned that in the ad.
USA Today’s annual ranking of ads, done by a random group who ranked the ads as they aired. A-B’s “magic fridge” top ad.

Although that was D.Pepsi’s hit song, the Diet Pepsi slogan appears to be something to the effect of “Cool, Crisp, Refreshing,” which appeared at then end of the Jackie Chan ad.

Thank you (whoever) who also remembers previously seeing the Hummer Godzilla ad. I was thinking I’d imagined the whole thing.

Clydesdale colt…meh. I guess I’m not easily manipulated. I also saw the preview Sat night during the “Top 40 SB Commercials” show, where they cut off before the payoff (big horses pushing), saying they didn’t want to spoil the surprise. I guessed it right. Woohoo for me.

My faves…FedEx dinosaur (kicking the little dino made me LOL), “Magic Fridge”, and Addicted to Lost. Shaq getting sniffly about Gabie losing her baby was nice…but you know it’s a down year for SB commercials when network promos make the list.

Jack in the Box is always good; I laughed out loud at Jack playing poker with William Hung and Gary Coleman, when GC says “I *borrowed * that.” And the guy who’s indecisive at the drive-thru, and winds up buying 30 tacos…I presume he’s meant to be stoned, right?

Yeah, but they give a web address at www.brownandbubbly.com

There was only one that made me laugh, I think it was the MacGuyer ad. I ignored most of them. Seeing Kermit in ads - singing “It’s Not Easy Being Green,” no less - still makes me want to go Jack Bauer and just start hurting people.

I thought the “Addicted to Lost” ad was terrible just because I completely missed the message. I heard the song and I know the line is “addicted to love” (or, if I’m being goofy, “a dickhead in love”). It wasn’t until the very last repetition out of 40 or 50 or whatever that the music faded away and I heard the “-st” sound. So I had no idea what was going on for 29.8 seconds there. It wasn’t the worst commercial I’ve ever seen, I just thought it missed badly.

Maybe it hit home for me because this week I had to have my sewer line dug up and replaced. Brown and bubbly indeed.

Please. The earlier cut versions were purposely done to not pass muster in order to make a “saga”.

You’re even more of a cynical bastard than me! (and you’re probably right too - good point)

It was my favorite of the show… you can even watch the extended version or download it.

The one wtih the sheep streaking could have been even better. After he got out there, they should have had the referees go out there and haul him off. Another name for referees is ‘zebras’. They should have had some zebra’s go out there and take the sheep off!!!

Yes, there aren’t zebras on a farm with sheep and horses, but c’mon!

You and Budweiser are on the same page…they did that (kinda) last year. They had a spot with a zebra checking instant replay, to see if one of the Clydesdales had stepped out of bounds.

(and referees aren’t responsible for security issues (like streakers), but that’s just a nit.)
