The official Pope Benedict XVI thread.

I resent the “Bubba” connotation. My father was born in Fort Smith, AR, in 1920. Nobody I know called HIM “Bubba.” He was strong enough to lift three bags of concrete mix (each weighing ninety pounds) at once.
And I voted for Bill Clinton both times he ran…
Who wants to be the first to throw a stone?

Dougie, is this really the first time you’ve heard that Bill Clinton has the nickname Bubba?

Incidentally, the Latin for Bubba would probably be Frater, as, to my understanding, “Bubba” means “brother”, originally.

In fact, it is. I had heard “Slick Willie” and other epithets. You can be sure I could, if prodded, com up with some cute nicknames for Bush I and Bush II, and for Reagan as well.
The only real “Bubba” I ever heard of was Bubba Smith, who played in the Super Bowl.

What, you’ve never heard of Bubba the Love Sponge? http://www.btls.com/ Now that dude’s pope material!

Bubba the Love Sponge? I can’t say that I have…is he any relation to Spongebob Squarepants? Hyuk hyuk

If you’re implying I’d be upset if you said unflattering things about any of these men, then that’s a second one that’s flown over your head.

Would you explain this metaphor?
Before you ask: No, I don’t expect you to get upset, from what you imply. I’ve been so sick of hearing unflattering things about Clinton or Carter or Kennedy; nobody seems to say anything uncomplimentary about the Republicans. Even the tabloids don’t criticize them, which implies something to me about who owns them.

A lot of loyal Nazis did that, when they realized the Reich was doomed.
