The one sucky song on your favorite album

I could do without “Shiva” on Fields of the Nephilim’s creatively-titled “Nephilim” album. It’s not horrible, exactly, it’s just sort of…there, sitting out of place in the middle, between bookends of some really good music.

:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:
I guess I’m biased because Here, There, and Everywhere was the song I played when I walked down the aisle. Syrupy and smarmy has its place…

As far as Beatles albums go, Rubber Soul could have done without Run For Your Life.

If it weren’t for O Girlfriend, Weezer’s Green album would be perfection IMO.

Blondie’s Plastic Letters would be perfect without “Cautious Lip”.

Even my all-time favorite album ever, ELO’s Out of the Blue goes clunk with “Believe Me Now”. Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, that one should been left on the cutting room floor.

" Boys don’t cry" on Oleander’s February Son

The orginal sucks, so why on earth did they cover it, and do it just as badly?

The Blade Runner soundtrack is a perfect collection of music suited for driving at night on freeways. Right up untill this annoying vocal song by some Tiny Tim soundalike called “One more kiss, Dear.”
It’s a real grain of sand in my soft serve ice cream.
A bone in my fish sandwich.
A bug on my windshild.

Okay I’m done until I can think of some more.

Dirty Frank on Pearl Jam’s Ten, the new european version. None of the 3 extra tracks are added value but Dirty Frank is really bad.

Bodyrock on Moby’s Play.

Hey! That’s an excellent song.

The worst song on the White Album is Birthday.
By the way, Maxwell’s Silver Hammer and Octopus’s Garden are good too.

My all-time favourite album qualifies. It is Selling England by the pound (Genesis). Full of masterpieces, and then there is inbetween More fool me, sung by Phil Collins instead of Peter Gabriel. It sucks big time. And don’t get me wrong, I am not a Phil basher - two albums down the line, they released A trick of the tail, all vocals by Phil, and it is brilliant. But More fool me… yuck.

Band: Komputer
Album: World of tomorrow
Song: Bill Gates

I love XTC’s Skylarking, but could easily do without “That’s Really Super, Supergirl” or “1000 Umbrellas.” They aren’t bad songs so much as just breathers 'til you get back to the really good stuff.

Similarly, I’m less-than-inspired by “Everyone” on Van Morrison’s Moondance or Paul McCartney’s “Mrs. Vandebilt” on Band On The Run.

As time’s gone on, I’ve discovered that’s true of most well-regarded albums…I haven’t heard one yet that doesn’t have at least one ho-hum track just to make all the great songs surrounding it sound better.

Electronic bassist Rob Wasserman has a stellar album called Trios, every song of which is a, uh, trio with him and two other, usually famous musicians. Among them are Jerry Garcia, Willie Dixon, Edie Brickell, Branford Marsalis, Bruce Hornsby, and Elvis Costello. Some vocals, some instrumentals, it’s a fantastic album, on which he even does a three layer track of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” with his bass playing all three pieces.
But the very first track, uggh. The most saccharin piece of fluff, played with Brian Wilson, and Carnie Wilson on vocals. One of the few songs in my entire collection that makes me leap for the skip button.

I love both of those songs, especially “1000 Umbrellas”.

On The Queen is Dead (THE SMITHS), I can’t stand “Frankly Mr. Shankly”.

Also, Cloudcuckooland (THE LIGHTNING SEEDS), the song “Frenzy” enters like chainsaw cutting through the beautiful music in the other songs. Everytime that I’m getting emotionally involved with the music on the album, “Frenzy” snaps me out of it like a friggin’ sledgehammer to my head. I just ask myself, “Why the f- would he put this song in the album? Why? Why?”.

Actually, that’s one of my favorite albums, and while I’ll have to admit What an Idiot He Is doesn’t fit the album, it grows on you after awhile.

Well, after 7 years, and probably over 100 listens…
It still sucks.

Actually it has grown on me enough to not hit skip anymore, but that’s about it. Some of the wordplay in the lyrics is cute, but I just can’t stand the song.

But like I said, it’s still my favorite album, and just shy of perfect.

Wow, nice to find another Ashley fan. If you haven’t seen him live, try to do so. It’s a real treat.
