The oogiest sculptures I've ever seen.

[note: NSFW]Islets of Aspergers.

Crimoney. It’s like something Pyramid Head would have done for an exhibition at the Silent Hill Cultural Center.

The 14 Most Unintentionally Terrifying Statues In The World. I’m partial to #9.

Well it’s not oogy in the same sense as those linked to so far (what the Hell is wrong with the people in Prague?) but apparently the Vatican isn’t too happy withthis piece of art. It’s not great but I’d much rather look at that than have that creepy ass giant Jesus in Rio looming over me.

These giant nude aliens are pretty damn creepy. Especially for 1970s Calgary.

I kinda like it. Of course, I thought the OP’s sculptures were awesome too…

I’m no prude… really! But it should probably be noted that the site linked in the OP may not be particularly work-safe. (Particularly the second and third pages.)

Personally, I think this sculpture by Alberto Giacometti is really ugly and I can’t see spending $104.3 million on it, as someone did last year.

I really hate the work of Robert Berks. His statue of Einstein, I think, is particularly ugly.

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it here but I really love modern sculpture. Martin Puryear is my favorite.

Not that I don’t love Cracked, because I do, but I think their definition of “unintentionally” needs to be recalibrated. I’m sure that #6 was certainly supposed to be scary, for starters, and #4, 9, 10, 13, and 14 sure aren’t intended to be cuddly or sweet.

I had to e-mail Cracked to ask why they’d left off #1:

This far and no one has brought up the human-dog chimerastatues yet? There’s a closeup of one of the babies? puppies? here. Patricia Piccinini’s imagination is one disturbing place…

Great thread! I love that there are people in this world who have wild enough imaginations to create these kind of things and execute them. I particularly like the statues of lactating/breastfeeding women and babies, not creepy at all, IMO.

Got a request to mark this as NSFW, and, yeah, I gotta agree – I would not want my boss walking by when I had that on my monitor, art or no art.

People, please, remember, not everyone’s boss is as cool as yours is.

Thanks,

I have to say that even though these are really creepy the detail is amazing. I wouldn’t want one in my house but I would go to a museum to look at them. They are rather fascinating.

Same applies to the ones in the OP. Very creepy, yes, but the detail on some of the features is … well, even more creepy. But you have to admire the work, or wonder if the artist actually has a few dismembered corpses buried in their yard, spare parts.

Maybe I just have a weak stomach, but this one nearly made me blow lunch when I first saw it.

I came into this thread to post about these.

Instead I’ll give you the work of Jake and Dinos Chapman. No link provided as their sculptures often involve lifelike androgynous human children with penises for noses. Just image search their names when you’re not at work.

I didn’t mind it at all but quite a few people were freaked out when mother was on display here in Copenhagen a few years ago.

I don’t know, I actually like “Litter” enough to think it might be nice to have around the house. It’s sweet in an odd sort of way.

Just for the record, I wasn’t the rat!

St. Bartholomew Statue by Marco d’Agrate in the Milan Duomo. It’s a statue of a man who has been skinned, wearing his skin like a robe. I think what kinda squicked me out was the “glove” created by the skin from his hand hanging down.
