The Open Championship 2026

Everyone’s favorite golfer, Bryson DeChambeau, has been assessed a two shot penalty for trampling down the grass to improve his lie (he was in waist-high, maybe higher, grass). This drops him from one shot back to three shots back at the halfway point.

Speculation is that he isn’t going to come out tomorrow.

I’m no fan of Bryson, and I do not know the rules. The dispute seems to be about whether his trampling down of the grass is to improve his lie or clear the backswing. He was definitely doing some trampling, but the camera was far away and you can’t tell exactly what he was doing.

Hopefully he will decide to continue. But he’s a stubborn bastard.

Supposedly he threatened to call Donald Trump to intervene, delaying other golfers from signing their scorecards and leaving the course.

In the wake of the penalty, DeChambeau refused to sign his scorecard and in the words of Rory McIlroy, held the tournament hostage. On top of that, he reportedly sought help from President Donald Trump, according to golf writer Geoff Shackelford

Hey, it worked for the US Men’s Soccer Club.
