…in one of the trippier driving-to-work incidents of my career.
I was driving into downtown Orlando, minding my own business, jamming to the song from Big Blue on SNES* F-Zero*, when in the distance I saw a bunch of guys in blue waving flags (at the intersection of Colonial/50 and Bumby, for you locals).
“Bit early for a high school carwash,” I thought. Then I looked closer. They were the biggest kids I’d ever seen…
“That looks like Hedo Turkoglu,” I said to myself. “That IS Hedo Turkoglu!”
Then the giant Dwight Howard popped out from behind a van, and I almost ran all of them over, I was so surprised.
Turns out they’re handing out free tickets for tonight’s playoff game. I guess we’ve sucked for so long that nobody is paying attention - so the first playoff series in twelve years that they might actually win isn’t sold out.
I used to do half-time entertainment for the Magic. My brother still does (Orlando Magic Jamskaters). We used to get a quick half court game in on the floor every once in a while. And all of the pros we met were all pretty nice.
The fact that you were listening to music from F-Zero blows my mind. I find that not a lot of people appreciate awesome video game music. Kudos to you sir.
