The Perfect Honeymoon?

I’m watching an old episode of Roseanne where she and Dan are trying to come up with an idea for their second honeymoon (since their first honeymoon was 18 hours on a cousin’s houseboat) and Dan picks camping in Wisconsin while Roseanne wants to go to Sarasota, Florida. My first thought was that both of those options seem like something I wouldn’t ever do for my honeymoon but then thinking about their general financial situation both of those might be excellent honeymoon ideas for them.

This has me thinking about honeymoon ideas now and I am sort of stumped. A cruise? Italy? Vegas? The SO and I have been talking a lot lately about wedding hypotheticals (“So, hypothetically speaking, when we get married where would we want to have the ceremony?” kind of things) but we haven’t ventured into hypothetical honeymoon options yet. Help me come up with some ideas! Where did you go on your honeymoon? Where would you like to go on a second honeymoon/your honeymoon in the future?

I would go to the Hotel La Mamounia in Marrakech, Morocco. Exotic, romantic, and expensive. Marrakech is a fascinating city with much to see.

It looks like the hotel is now closed and will reopen September 29th.

If you’re into beaches and snorkeling and lolling around through quiet tropical days, go to St. John, USVI. If you’re into night life, don’t.

St. John is like St. Thomas or a lot of other Caribbean islands, minus the “scene” and crowds. Two-thirds of the island is national park.

We stayed here. It’s seriously secluded, even from its own guest house. A rather large number of people who signed the guest book talked about how cool it was that you could walk around naked on the outdoor patio.

We went to surf camp in Costa Rica. Neither of us had done it before, we just get bored easily and have no interest in “sitting around on the beach” vacations. Yes, we got up at 6am to surf on our honeymoon. For 12 days straight. It was awesome. We stayed here, 1000% recommended.

What makes a honeymoon perfect is what makes any vacation perfect - you planned the right kind of time for the kind of people you are.

My parents thought we should rent a car and drive around aimlessly “exploring” the country. Great for them, but not our style. They are not physical outdoorsy types - our surf vacation where we compared bruises over beers and fell into bed exhausted at 9pm was not their style. No vacation is “perfect” for everyone.

So true.

My hubby and I went on a honeymoon vacation to Red Top Mountain State Park in Georgia. We rented a cabin and visited with other Dopers all weekend. We had a wonderful time (a Dopefest was held there on Sunday of that weekend IIRC).

We love cabin ‘camping’ and state parks. YMMV.
