The Physical Geography of the world and our historical timeline are being supernaturally changed as I type this

Hello, SDMB

I know that many of you have heard of the Mandela Effect (if you haven’t, I advise a google search). I’m posting this message to share something important: the geography of our world and our historical timeline are being supernaturally changed as I write this.

South America has been shifted thousands of miles east of where it once was. The size, shape, and location of countries and continents- Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea- are apparently being altered on a daily basis.

The famous series of paintings depicting dogs playing poker have been supernaturally altered from what hundreds of millions of human beings, myself included, distinctly recall them being.

Stouffer’s Stovetop Stuffing has been erased from the historical timeline (seriously).

This is a frightening and amazing time to be alive. I assure you I am being completely serious when I say the things I’ve just said here. Our world is apparently a simulation, and always, as far as I know, has been.

I know these sound like strange claims- they are- but please let me know what you have to say on this issue.

Stay safe.

The more logical possibility is that you are bad at remembering things.

Or the even more logical possibility might be that s/he joined the Dope 27 minutes ago and is pulling our leg.

I’m a he.

I assure you, even though I just joined these boards, I am not trolling or joking in any way. This is something real I’m describing to anyone who will look at the evidence and see, maybe just maybe, that this is not just “False Memory Syndrome.”

These things are happening.

Please investigate with as open a mind as you can muster.

Thanks for letting me know-I’ll try to remember the ‘he’.

It looks like this is the latest crazy conspiracy theory going round.

“I’m not remembering things wrong, I’m in an alternate reality!”

Take any urban myth, commonly circulated false fact, easily confused or misremembered item… and claim it used to be true but reality has changed.

As a conspiracy theory it has the advantage that it’s not easy to disprove, and if you disprove one example, they have a hundred more.

We have covered the Mandela Effect quite a few times before:

Stove Top Stuffing was made by General Foods, not Stoufffer’s. Phillip Morris acquired General Foods in 1985 and acquired Kraft in 1988. They later combined the two divisions into a single division named Kraft.

Stove Top Stuffing has not been erased from history. It is currently still made, just now with the Kraft label instead of General Foods.

Stouffer’s is owned by Nestle. Their brand is used for frozen foods, not mixes. Making mixes like Stove Top Stuffing would be off-brand for them and makes no sense. Nestle would likely use a different division to produce that type of food.

This site’s purpose is to fight ignorance. If you are here to promote nonsense theories that are easily disprovable with common knowledge, you aren’t going to find much of a welcome here.

I would also caution you that intentionally posting misleading information is a form of trolling and is a bannable offense here.

As the old quote goes, keep an open mind, but not so open that your brains fall out.

There’s a difference between this conspiracy theory and the psychological effect of the same name.

False memory is a well known phenomenon in psychology, but these people are claiming that the memories are perfect, and we are in an alternate reality where the facts are different – except that (for some unexplained reason) our memories are the same.

Maybe in this reality…

I am pretty sure we covered the conspiracy theory in a few of the threads I linked to.

You remember covering it… but perhaps the timeline has changed, and those threads are now different?

According to Last Thursdayism, none of the versions are real.

I see I’ve somehow wound up in a timeline where the Straight Dope wasn’t canceled in 1981 after Cecil Adams’ disastrous third-party presidential campaign that resulted in Montana seceding for the third time.

I’ll see myself out.

According to the Simulation Theory, none of the versions are real, either.

So how do we know which unreal reality is the real unreal reality?

I’m having trouble with this South America business. I’ll agree that flat earthers have it wrong on their map but that’s because they’re, well, flat earthers. Otherwise what’s wrong with it? It’s where it’s always been.

At first I was sceptical about this Mandela effect. Where is the evidence?

But it’s astonishing that the statement about South America is true. :fearful:
It used to be in Gondwanaland! :astonished:

Your theory is very important. I suggest that you print it out and mail it to many people, along with a copy to yourself.

Sorry, my mind isn’t so “open” that just any random theory is able to fall into it, unchecked by any sense of reason. These days, having such an “open” mind has serious political consequences.

How could we possibly investigate this? If the world has changed (except for some people’s memories), there’s nothing we could investigate outside those people’s memories. Everything else has changed, right?

This is like the theory that the entire universe came into existence fifteen minutes ago. However, everything in the universe (including the memories of everything in the univese) was set up so that all the evidence available indicates that the universe is 13.8 billion years old. If this is true, there’s nothing we could find in the universe that indicates that the theory that it’s fifteen minutes old is true.

How do you know that everything else in the universe wasn’t just set up when you were born to convince you that you’re just an ordinary person on an ordinary planet around an ordinary star in an ordinary galaxy at one random time in the history of the universe? However, the entire universe could just be a movie set designed to record your life. Every other creature in the universe could be just an actor on this movie set who tries to convince you that you’re an ordinary person and not one in a universal movie.
