It’s starting right now!
Tivo is recording it for us. Already put on the Season Pass list, just based on her website.
Does she have the in-person charisma to carry off a show? Don’t get FN here, so not much chance of finding out. And I love her blogging style. The cutesy, nudge-wink-youknowyouwanna thing she does never bugs me. I don’t see how well it would translate on screen, though.
Sadly, I never follow her recipes exactly. Complete adherence would preclude the longevity I envision for my family!
No kidding! She just made a huge batch of mashed potatoes with a stick and a half of butter, and 8 oz of cream cheese. Plus more butter on top, then reheated in a casserole dish in the oven.
How was it? I like some of her recipes but haven’t visited her site for probably a year.
I liked it! She is kind of stilted, but they showed a lot of her family and working the cattle on the ranch and stuff.
She made chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, and marinated herbed tomato salad from her garden. Also a recipe for breakfast sandwiches (Texas toast, sausage, eggs and cheese) and some kind of milk punch.
She’s cute!
Drat, missed it. What does Marlboro man’s voice sound like?
He’s a handsome guy! His voice is not like I expected, though. Not as deep.
I’ve been a fan of hers for a good while. Can’t say that I’ve ever tried to copy one of her recipes, but I know (and love) good food porn when I see it.
I loathe that Food Network website. So slow, hard to navigate . . . never had much luck with it. Including 5 minutes ago when I tried to see when PW’s premiere episode would be shown again. Does anyone know?
[aside] When I wanted to make Ina’s Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars, it was easier to type it into Google than to navigate the FN website. [/aside]
I thought she did pretty well- I have seen her be a little nervous in front of the camera before but she seems more comfortable with it now. I thought she did great on the Bobby Flay Thanksgiving Throwdown last year also. I won’t be making chicken-fried steak but I can say I’ve tried about a dozen of her recipes and haven’t been disappointed yet. I especially reccommend the Creamy Herbed Potatoes and the Pumpkin Cake with Whiskey Cream. For her writing, the story about Tanner, the Christmas Dog is roll-on-the-floor funny.
Oh, and on the show, one of her daughters called her brother by name. She doesn’t use their names on her blog but one of the boys must be “Todd”.
I’ve been a fan for awhile now of her blog. I think I stumbled across her blog from another BlogHer site I like, whose life more accurately mirrors my own (as a young 20 something living in the city with their SO).
I thought she personally was very nervous and stilted. Her husband came off GREAT, and her kids came off very well. I hope it continues and she softens up a bit. Sometimes you could feel the perfectionist-former ballet dancer in her speaking style. The Lodge and the whole atmosphere is great though.
I stumbled across it on the TV guide (haven’t had cable for 2 years, now I do) so I hope to catch it again next Saturday.
Video of Act one is posted.
Seriously? Argh, now I hate that I cancelled my cable - I love her and I keep forgetting to catch up on her blog.
Trust me, cable is garbage. I have it since the Comcast promo here is literally $12/month more for cable and split between 3 people it’s a no brainer.
You should catch up on her blog though - she’s kind of getting to be a big deal so I assume that less and less of her blog will actually be written by her and more and more of it will be outsourced to create a brand and more income generation.
Ree used her evil mind control powers to make me addicted to Vietnamese iced coffee. She is dangerous!
I’ve only made one other recipe from her - Chicken Tikka Masala. It. Was. Awesome.
Don’t have cable, but I will have to visit her site more often . . .
I was fascinated with her web site and especially with her story. But not so much with her show.
I want someone to come in and do her hair and makeup, for one thing.
I don’t know what I was expecting, but this isn’t it. Great house, cute family, very ranch-y and farm-y (but rich) (not saying he/they didn’t earn it)… I dunno. I’ll keep taping it and watching until I figure out what’s bothering me.
She kept her husband in the shadows for so long… I gotta wonder how he feels about this spotlight.
Maybe it’s this: a cooking show that has someone in the kitchen making stuff-- I like that. But when it’s sort of pseudo-reality, “Oh we just happen to be having a birthday party and the TV audience is invited…” it kind of creeps me out.
I’m prolly just being a picky bitch. Don’t mind me.
What really bugged me is that she’s calling her husband “Ladd”, which sounds like the name of a gay boy in West Hollywood, not the name of a rancher in Oklahoma. No doubt some idiot producer came up with that gem. On her blog he’s “Marlboro Man”, so no doubt either 1) she’s not allowed because of Teh Cigarettes or because it’s a trademark.
But it didn’t fit. At all.
I also didn’t get how she said like nine million times “I wonder what they’re eating!?!?!” First time cute but the 2nd-5th time were grating.
I think her family does a lot better in front of the camera than she does. Obviously I’d like more food and less reality. On the blog they come off as cute and authentic; on the show they come off as wealthy ranchers that people can’t necessarily relate to.
Since her blog is so full of pictures and step by step instructions I don’t see how her show is helpful.
Overall I’m happy for her, if it means that she has more success. But she does have multiple books and even a kid’s book, so she’s doing all right. Plus it’s pretty obvious from their renovations (of their Lodge, which is a giant 2nd home) and their first house that they’re some of those wealthy ranchers. Of course there’s the whole double edged sword angle; the more tv/books she does the fewer she’s doing the real blog posts and what-have-you.
“On the blog they come off as

Yeah, this is kind of it in a nutshell.
You don’t think Ladd is his real first name? I assumed it was.
Oops, yeah, looks like his name actually is Ladd. Link’s to her Wiki.
Ugh:
“A motion picture based on Drummond’s book From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels was reportedly in development at Columbia Pictures for Reese Witherspoon to star as Ree.”
Blech.
