The pitter-pat of puppy paws, joy!

I’m halfway to being a doggy mom, again. Today’s phone interview went well.
Tomorrow is the house inspection and canine-human introduction. I’m pretty confident I and my home will pass inspection, but a few crossed fingers from Dopers wouldn’t be amiss.

12 yr old female Yorkie. I hope the fact that her two previous owners died under her care is just coincidence.

If someone would be so kind as to help this techno-klutz post a picture of my new overlord, I’d be grateful. It’s not fair to keep all that cuteness to myself.

You need an account at a photo hosting site (Imgur, Flickr, Photobucket, etc). Then post the link.

Good on you for taking in an older pet.

Seconded.

However, I also think it’s ridiculous that one needs to go thru a home inspection to get a pet. Newsflash: Not everyone has a fenced in yard.

You’re thinking of it in terms of “I’m getting a new pet”. The group or person who rescued the dog is thinking “I’m trying to find a good, permanent home for this old dog”.

I think a home inspection is appropriate if you’re looking to find a good home, especially for an older dog. Better to check out where he’s going to live than dump him off anywhere and find out later that the person changed their mind and he’s been dropped off at the pound.

But, yes, thank you for taking an older dog. I hope you’re a perfect fit for each other!

Well, in dog years we’re about the same age.
Zoey is being fostered by a Shelter Ambassador, which means the adoption takes place in my home. I don’t have to go to the Shelter. The lack of a fenced yard isn’t a problem with the Shelter, unlike some rescue organizations. Even if I am turned down:( at least my house got cleaned.

Pics tomorrow. Thanks for the picture suggestions.

So much for “no more dogs”.

How wonderful! Hope it all goes well and you two enjoy each others company for many years.

My niece adopted a 12 year old Yorkie many years ago, she’d just moved to the big city and was lonely, they were wonderful companions for one another.

Rescue volunteer here:
The home inspection isn’t for you, it’s for the dog. The rescue isn’t finding you a pet, they’re finding the dog a home. And they don’t want to have the dog boomerang - they want “one and done.”

That’s a key misunderstanding that many people have about Rescue, and it’s a key source of friction - We don’t CARE what the humans want - we’re interested in the welfare of the dog.

So when you’re denied that ‘gotta-have-it-it’s-soooo-cute!’ dog, it isn’t because we suck, or you suck; it’s because - in the studied opinion of the Rescue - you and the dog are not a good match. Be patient - we’ll find you a dog that fits you and your lifestyle. Maybe. Depending on which dogs are in the pipeline, and what you’re bringing to the table.
Unless you DO suck - in which case, you’ll be asked to go away.

Thanks for rescuing an older dog. One of mine is a Golden Chow mix who belonged to a friend who passed away. She turned 15 this month. I hope the two of you will be very happy.

Pre-gratulations and thank you for rescuing an older one!

She gave me her full approval and is sleeping next to me on the couch as I type. We were just so busy playing today that I didn’t get any pictures taken. Tomorrow should be a quiet photo-friendly day.

Wherever I go there’s a furry "whatcha doin’? face staring up at me. She’s a joy to walk with. And such a featherweight, I worry about breaking a bone every time I pick her up.

She was loved by her former owners and I plan on doing the same thing.

Hugs to all.

Wonderful news, congratulations!!

Mazel tov!

Good for you for adopting an older pet, especially one of such an advanced age. Many people overlook older dogs in favor of a puppy or young adult, but they all need homes. I adopted a dog in December from the county animal shelter. She’s about six or seven. Right this moment, she’s lying down on the floor beside my couch and I can reach down and scratch her belly.

That is so awesomely awesome!

I totally agree!
